2023 Hunting Picture Thread

Mick - Do you hunt with this Peregrine? Beautiful!!!

How long have you been a falconer?
I did hunt with him, he was an exceptional high flying game hawk, he is dead now.

I was a falconer for 45 years, I tired of falconry when I came to the end of the road and had nothing more to learn.

This is someone I know from a few years back..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5LKxKsfJ6o

Wow. Something I dreamed of for many years, but never had the environment to keep a bird. Thanks for the reply.

Been putting in since I was 12, and on my 29th year of applying I finally drew an elk tag! Game and Fish must not like my last name or something. Day 2 of hunting on public land, by my lonesome and dumped this guy this morning. Hell of a lot of work to quarter up and pack out an entire elk solo. Pictures in the field are a PITA also when solo! Ran out of #4s in 2-3/4".
At least it was steel. I have seen far too many situations where a shortage of (insert ammo here) results in the use of something that is questionable ethically, legally, or otherwise unsafe.

Can’t make this up… one time we were walking out of the dove field talking about how one guy had forgot to buy a migratory bird stamp and my phone had butt dialed a buddy of ours who is a sheriffs deputy. He put it on speaker (next to the sheriff now mind you) to try to understand what we were saying since the phone was in my pocket and it was all muffled and he thought we might be stuck in mud and need help. The only thing that they heard clearly was when one of the guys said he should have brought his 22 for the doves that landed on the power line. That guy was the sheriffs nephew and got a little bit of education when his uncle got hold of him.

Wow! There's a lot of mass in those antlers. No skinny ones for you.

Doing it by your self is a real chore. My wife and I had to butcher and pack out a bull in western Wyoming when I dumped him in a canyon. Six trips each up that switchback trail we finally got him out.

I swore up and down that if I saw a shooter bull in the bottom of a canyon or steep draw I would have the patience to wait him out til he got to higher ground. Luckily this guy was in a pretty good spot when I took the shot. I’ve helped friends in the past pack elk, mule deer, and a desert bighorn out of some hellacious country, so I completely feel your pain thinking about packing one out on switchbacks!

7-08 at 65 yards using PPU factory 140gr soft point ammo fired from a T/C Compass with 3-9x40 Vortex Crossfire II.

I shot the deer’s right side and you’re seeing the exit in the left shoulder and a split hide in her neck from, what I suspect was, the shockwave of the bullet.

I think I forgot to post any pictures of our Saskatchewan waterfowl hunt in this thread.
It was a 6 day marathon of hunting Geese and ducks about 3 hrs north of Saskatoon. There were two father/son duos. We had great hunts every day and limited out twice iirc.View attachment 1175761View attachment 1175762View attachment 1175763View attachment 1175764View attachment 1175765View attachment 1175766View attachment 1175767View attachment 1175768
It was awesome.
Duck Duck Goose Outfitters.
If I recall correctly, you're only allowed to bring 2 days' worth of limits back into the States. What did you do with the other birds?

Man, if it took you 29 years to draw the tag, you deserved it!!!

Three days limits are allowed to bring back....I think we were able to bring them all home. There were native lands nearby and we were going to leave some with them if we were over our allowance....but we weren't over.

That's good to know. I always wanted to go up there and do that.

I used to live along the Chesapeake Bay, and got invited to hunt waterfowl a lot. I really miss that. Some of the best memories of my life were in duck blinds.

The 3030 barked and definitely connected but we couldn’t find any blood. All 11 deer got out of the field so we hope that the hit was superficial. Her grandad is going to go back first thing in the morning to look for blood. It’s a shame we couldn’t shoot when I had video rolling because of the house in the woods. The deer crossed over to the bean field and gave her a safe shot at about 50 yards. There was one she couldn’t see but I could that would have been a 20 yard broadside standing perfect shot… but such is our luck.
My son and I after a successful elk hunt in Colorado last week

Picked up six of the ten pigs we shot tonight. The 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC continue to impress. It’s rare that a pig leaves the field if shot while standing still and not running for its life. Nothing huge tonight, but the spotted pig is a rarity in our part of the world. Damned good night all the way around. 3587094D-FD83-49CD-AA57-AB54D21C3FC8.jpeg 9F7862EC-2DE1-4393-987C-AEDFB3C6570A.jpeg 04C8E61F-DE71-4A2E-ACC5-246B1899AC8D.jpeg 6DD0A161-BF8D-4995-9103-0A540FB07A0B.jpeg
