Just went trap shooting with some buds.

First time for me, more used to skeet and hunting.

What are good suggestions for trap loads for a 20ga?

Will the same work well skeet or is there a better load for skeet vs trap?

Thanks,

I'd use 9s for skeet and 8s or 7 1/2s for trap. Otherwise, just add some choke for trap and use an open choke for skeet.

And have fun, THAT's the mission, not taking that 20 to the Grand....

What Dave said. A couple of weeks ago I watched a guy with a .410 break 18 from the 20yard line. :what: It was impressive.

I shoot trap and sporting clays with a 20ga for fun and hunting practice.

I still have a great stockpile of 20ga Winchester AAs, which I got a couple years ago for $3.49/box. I grabbed every case the store had.

For trap (especially from the 16 yard line), you are hard-pressed to find much difference between #7.5 and #8. For skeet, #9s are best, but #8s work nearly as well. Use your most open choke for skeet, and at least Modified (I use Full) for trap.

BTW, I find that trap is excellent preparation for pheasant season. My dog tends to work about 15-20 yards ahead, and MOST of the birds seem to flush away from the dog... hence almost identical shot presentation.

Man... the season is getting close! :D (I'd prefer a :salivate: smilie).

Two weeks until doves!
