Howdy, anybody here try this recipe?

Bullet Weight (Gr.) Manufacturer Powder Bullet Diam. C.O.L. Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure

55 GR. SPR SP Hodgdon H380 .224" 2.350" 38.0 3507 45,400 CUP 41.0

3713 50,700 CUP

22" barrel 12 in 1 twist.

I run 55gr Nosler BT, 37.5gr H380, 2.500", 3600fps, 26" barrel.

Very good load in my R700 VS 22-250:)

In my savage 12FV (26'' barrel, 1 in 12" twist) after a lot of testing got the best results with

Hornady 40 gr V-max
36.5 grs IMR 4064
WSR primer
Winchester brass

100 yards- .75" to 1"
200 yards- 1" + or -
300 yards- about 3" + or -

the 1 in 12'' twist savage barrel does not seem to like a bullet heavier than 40 grains, anything heavier starts to tumble and does not fly true. A hevier grain bullet can group halfway decent at 100 yards but anything past that and it is no longer predictable. I got better groups at 100 yards with the 40 grain sierras and noslers ( .5" - .75"), however at 200 yards those groups opened up big time (about 5 inches). the hornadys still stayed around 1" at 200 yards. At 300 yards the hornadys still shot consistent about a 3" group. where as the sierras and noslers were all over the target.

From my Rem.M700 Express (ADL Synthetic/24"bbl 1/14" twist- light taper bbl), I use 39.0 H380 and 55gr Sierra or other flat-base bullets. This is a max load from my tight chambered, short-throated barrel...
It,however at 3,780fps shoots bug-holes. Typical groups for 5-shots run 1/2" or so.

A lot to like!!! Oddly enough, the only thing I've shot with this gun besides paper is deer......! It works..... just like a .30/30 or .270.....

38.0 grains of Hodgdon H380 with a 52 grain HP in the 22-250 is why Bruce Hodgdon named the powder H-380.

38.0 = H380, get it?

Smokin !! I love that cartridge. I also load some light varmit bullets for my 7 mags. using a 100 grainer which gets em out there between 3700 and 3800 fps.. Make a mess of a coyote. But a cartridhe like the 22-250 that can send em out there at 4000+ fps gets my blood pumping like no other, ya buddy!

Not to run wild, the 22-250 is great but I do like my .204 at 4225fps in a 32gr v-max is just what the doc ordered and at 28gr of W748 you save some powder overall. But the 50gr varmint gernade is superb and devastating on them p-dogs.

I gave up on H380 shortly after getting my .22-250. It's a good powder but just to temperature sensitive for me. Unless you live in Hawaii POI will change every month with the temp.
