I was reassembling my 22/45 and didn't get the hammer in the right position before popping the retaining latch back in.

Now the gun won't function, but I can't get the latch back out.

This has happened to me before, and I remember getting it back out somehow. There are dings on the back of the grip...

Does anyone know a trick? I've tried prying it, but it didn't work this time.

Thanks!
Barry

Take the gun and sharply rap the muzzle on a padded surface (carpeted floor worked for me). That should move the hammer forward enough for you to disassemble it and reassemble it properly.

I dig Ruger's customer service, and this gun (6 7/8" slabside bull barrel special run) has been an amazing shooter, fun, accurate, ultra-reliable and cheap.

My only complaint about it is this: WHY didn't Ruger put this in the manual?!?

They tell you exactly what to do, but they don't tell you what to do if the hammer sticks or you don't do everything just right. It wouldn't be hard to add this to the manual: "If the dry-fire test fails, just hold down the trigger and bump the muzzle against a padded surface. The latch should come out easily and you can repeat the procedure."

Thanks again.

A good question.

I think Ruger's manuals in general need some work (and to clarify, I am a Ruger fan and currently own 7 of their handguns). I was reading through the manual on my new LCP last night and there were sections talking about safety levers and decockers which the LCP doesn't have. Obviously the new LCP manual contains a lot of "Ruger Boilerplate" from previous P-series manuals.
