I know this topic is annoying, but I need help. I am looking for a 22 pistol that I can rabbit, rat, snake...hunt with, target shoot with, hit what I am aiming for ANYTHING beats the rg 10:banghead: I have now! I realy want to keep it at and around $350. cant realy make up my mind, too many guns to choose from!

Ruger Mk III Hunter or .22/45 Hunter. Fluted bull barrel and fiber optic sights.

H&R 676 convertible: It's double action, accurate like crazy and should cost $200-$250 on Gunbroker et al. The DA and magnum capability make it a bit more serious, you know? It'll also keep you fed. Did I say that it's really, really accurate?

Note: I promise to retire this picture soon.

And just to make things interesting, it can't be a ruger!

Why not? Ruger makes one of the most solid .22 pistols with great aftermarket support.

There's also the Browning Buckmark. You might also find a S&W .22 revolver for that price used if you are lucky.

There's also the Taurus 970 Tracker. I hear it's better than the Taurus 94.

buckmarks and rugers are my go-to guns (not in that order). if you're thinking of mounting a dot sight or something you might look to smith or beretta for their integral mounts.

Guys the OP didnt say it cant be a Ruger, it was a joke-ster!

Mt vote Ruger MKIII 22/45. I have one and its super accurate and reliable. My best friend has a MKII version and its also super accurate and reliable.

Right, I was being sarcastic. Of course the answer to these threads is always Ruger.

I guess you could consider a .22lr conversion for another caliber. Sometimes those are more picky about ammo choice. But an advantage would be that the controls would be the same as for the other caliber.

I think the price projection would keep it limited to Ruger's or other semi-auto's- for what would probably be a bit more money, I would look at the Ruger Bearcat...compact and light for ease of carry, Ruger reliability, decent accuracy and a bit of a collectible to pass along to future generations-

I've shot both the Rugers and Buckmarks. Both are excellent guns. But both are quite heavy. This isn't a problem if the main goal is for hunting but if you'll just be out walking and carrying the gun "in case" then I think it'll get pretty heavy on the belt pretty quick. For that sort of scenario the S&W 22A or a good used S&W 422 would be nice options for a semi.

Then there's revolvers. Some nice options within your budget there as well. But I'm not sure if that fits in with your requirement for a fast cycle, depending on what you meant.

The other thing is that some of the targets you mentioned do not allow for sneaking up as much of an option. If you're actually doing this for eating game would you not be better off with a rifle?

I suggest a Walther P22. If you go to rimfirecentral.com it will scare the heck out of you, but I have to tell you my wife has run about 4k rounds thru her's and it's great. I clean and lube the pistol after each trip to the range and no problems.

She traded a beautiful stainless Ruger MKII slab side for it (I would have kept it) because the Walther felt more like a pistol to her. Shoot what makes you feel comfortable.

I have two in my collection that are in current production. A Heritage SA (way to much fun for $140) and a Beretta Neos with 4" barrel that is my serious plinker ($260).
The Neos has a built in rail for optics and comes with two mags, a hard case, and so far has digested any ammo I've put through it.

Ruger or Buck Mark semi is almost certainly your best choice. Right in your price range and you'll never be ashamed that you bought either.

It's getting damn near impossible to find a decent .22 revolver at the $300 price point. The used H&R's maybe, but I've heard nothing but nightmare stories about the Taurus 94. Think I heard the Tracker might be better though. You'll only find a used Smith .22 revolver if you find a widow/sucker and have loose morals.

Hated the 22A when I shot it - felt cheap and unnatural in my hand, some folks swear by it. Lots of folks think their Walther is the neatest toy ever, but quite a few remark on "Pop can" accuracy being about its limit. Don't know too much personally about the NEOS or Sigs. Hear pros and cons on each, but the good and bad seem balanced.

Right, I was being sarcastic. Of course the answer to these threads is always Ruger.

Because. It. Works. No potmetal parts, affordable magazines that are available at most every gunshop. A bit tricky to reassemble, but doable. Backed by good CS.

The Buckmark is also a good option.

There is a reason why these two pistols are "always the answer". They are good quality, low cost, and keep right on working.

It would be nice if the Walther P22 and the Sig Mosquito lived up to the reps for quality of their parent brands...
