.22 Question

I just don't enjoy it, I can sit there all day and put holes in paper the length of the range, but can do the same with a 9mm. I only found them useful when I had distance to play with, South Fl isn't the place to really shoot rifles at distance, unless you belong to a private club. it's not my thing, different strokes.I really don't have a problem with anticipation. I have been shooting the same pistol calibers for 45 years. The 22 isn't going to make much difference at this point. If I shot competition I might have one, but it's strictly HD now for me. If I can't carry it I don't need it. My AR is my only rifle. That's my "just in case" gun.A shotgun is on my short list, but I want a gas operated gun that has little recoil because of my back problems.

Everyone is different a 22 for me would just collect dust like the 2 I had did.

Hey everyone is different, many of my ex military friends don't have 22's, and I know a lot of guys. My best friend was a career marine with 30 plus rifles and I really don't think he has a 22 in the bunch. He just bought another 308 and that was a compromise as he must have a dozen, but didn't want to spend the cash on the Lapua rounds. Also settled on a Leatherman scope that only went out to 600 yards. For Florida only, His 1000 range scopes are kept upstate NY. Don't get me wrong they are great to learn on, but some guys have no interest in shooting a 22. Inexpensive as it may be, it does nothing for them either.

Four .22 pistols (Buckmark, Mark II, Phoenix HP22A, Ruger single-six)
AR Conversion in .22.
AK .22
Armscor .22 (worst of the bunch)
Two 10/22s (one stock and one tacticool)
Winchester 77 tube feed (actual squirrel gun)
Remington 72 pump
13-14 assorted semi and bolt guns. This number goes up every once in a while as someone gives me one or I buy another one I don't need.

If we go out on a Saturday and shoot for a couple of hours I can get by on $100 in .22 ammo and everyone gets to shoot all they want. Not so much with any other round.

That makes sense, forunate for me, I am the only one shooting, as it's just my wife and I, and I have to drag her to go. If I had to take kids and grandkids I couldn't afford to shoot period. But most guys I know are either older, "so it's just them" or younger, "same thiing", no familys that shoot together where I am. I think that's mre of a southern thing, as most kids I know aren't interested because their parents aren't. I have no kids of my own, just step kids who are grown and have their own kids now. Both were brought up as non gun people, not anti, just afraid of guns. At age 40 they have no interest in leaning. I have tried. Even took them, no deal. So I go with friends. One married a Psycologist, may as well have neutered him. He can't do anything anymore.

what game can be REALISTICALLY be taken with a .22, other than the obvious like squirrel etc.?

I use my .22 WMR for just about everything short of deer and even then if I had to I might use it for one of those in a pinch if it where legal.

A .22 1911 is a lot of fun. As are 10/22s and Marlin Model 60s.
My favorite rifle is a Marlin. 22 mag bolt action. Lots of fun and super accurate. A little pricier that. 22 long rifle, but I love it anyway.

My Grandfather always said that "during the depression, more deer were taken (poached) by .22 short, than any other caliber". (Head shots, up close)
