my brother has a .22 ruger single six, with the .22 magnum cylinder. he has had it for at least 15 years. when his son was about 2 years old, he asked me to put it in my safe, as the boy was into everything, and he was afraid his son would find this. anyway, he is now thinking of selling it to me, since he hasn't even handled it n 8 years. it is in very good condition. the only thing extra is a leather belt holster. neither of us really know what it is worth. and as much as i would like to get it cheap:evil:, i do not want to screw up our relationship over money:banghead:. i would like opinions on what you think it is worth. that way, we will have some independant idea's. thanks in advance.

Give him what he paid for it originally. Its worth at least that much used now and he will have his money back. If it was a ridiculously low price compared to current used value. You can add what ever extra money you feel you need to keep you conscious clear.

A Ruger Super Single Six 22lr/mag revolver with 6-1/2" barrel was the first handgun I bought. The cost at that time was $89.95. Goes to show you how long ago that was and how much prices have changed in 33 years.

I own several Single Sixes and also hang out on the Ruger forums. Unless it is some special, rare issued model it and the holster are worth about $250. Now, that being said, he is your brother and you did protect his son from getting into something he shouldn't. What is that worth?

Like Steve C, my first gun was a Single Six and I paid $93.50 new in 1974. I still have it. Looks like he got a better deal than me.

The stainless model would be worth a little more to me by virtue of being ALL STEEL and that is the version I own. I agree with the others that $250 should be a fair price for the blued , a little more for stainless.

"my brother ..." you kidding...you have to ask...

Give him more than it's worth...

What goes around comes around...

Here's what nobody's asked, is it an Old Model, or a New Model?

If'n it's old, and doesn't have the transfer bar safety conversion, it's worth a few bucks more. I paid $300 for an unconverted old model with both cylinders at a gun show earlier this year, and felt good about it.

TRY finding a stainless for a little more than $250.....

Unless the gun comes with a .22LR cylinder, I'm not sure it would be worth a premium price. If this gun is for collection, that's one thing; if it's for shooting, I'd want a LR cylinder. As for the leather holster, it could be worth anywhere between ten bucks to $50 or more. Is it ornate? Is it double stitched?

I've got a 07 bluebook if you want me to quote a few prices. 28th edition my bad.

It's only worth a couple of hundred bucks and you have stored it for 8 years. Tell your brother to just give it to you and he can come and use it anytime he wants. Money shouldn't screw up the relationship because you have been graciously storing it for the last 8 years.

"Bought my stainless New Model SS convertible for $289."

Show me the receipt date...

At this time not one single six ruger on GB for LESS THAN $250....!!!

Now I'll check AA and Rugerforums. and 24hr and Accurate...

Oh and not one is stainless...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The gun has a great deal of appeal for those who like the guns of the Old West and the cheap cost of ammo. Still, the .22 mag ammo does give it some serious authority as a camping or trail gun.

The fit and finish of this stainless model ensures its continued popularity.

Holsters ranged from this cheapie holster to rather elaborate Western holsters with stamped patterns and tassles.

it is just a standard run of the mill blued version, with the standard and mag. cylinder. it does have the transfer bar. the holster, while nice, is just a plain tanned leather with a strap to keep it from being drawn. very similar to the one in the picture above.

I bought a nice stainless used one for $275 several months back, so I'd guess $250 would be fair and a hell of alot more than he'd get from a gunshop.

I see a lot of comments saying to pay extra since he's your brother, I guess my family's weird because I'd typically pay less when buying from a family member!

I think the Ruger would be fairly priced at around $250. If he wants to check for himself, tell him to try looking at some of the online gun auctions or go to a few gun shows. At least that way both parties can be satisfied that an attempt was made to determine a fair market price.

Give him a few hundred for it and tell him if he ever wants it back, you'll sell it to him for the same price. Done deal and nobody gets taken for anything.

The best thing you can give him is training his son on proper handling and shooting. And a life long passion for firearms. When he is old enough and responsible enough give it to him.(his son)
