22 semi-auto but not a 10-22

Very nice! Especially the Browning. I know mine is a good shooter but never thought about MOA accuracy.

I figured minute of bunny was good enough. I've wondered how putting a scope on it would change things....

ETA: I don't have any inclination towards putting a scope on it either. It is one year older than me and sort of an heirloom.

I had some the older Remington semiautomatic rifles, my first was a Nylon 66 that seemed to be a tack driver, my only issue was the easily broken plastic bolt handle.
Then picked up a almost new 522 Viper, (seemed super light), accuracy was no where in the ballpark of the Nylon 66.
Then word got out I had one then had people keep giving me broken ones.
The broken parts are mostly broken plastic guide ribs in mag well and easily broken metal ejector stud (super flimsy)
Then I happened upon a pretty beat up Alaskan Bush camp Rem 552 Speedmaster, the chamber was out of tolerance, the sloppy chamber turns out some pretty Ho-Hum accuracy, quite unlike the 552 reputation for being accurate.

Anybody have feedback on the Winchester model 190?
I had a model 250 leveraction version f thatparticular series of recevers.
And beleve there was a pump version as model 270?

Like the Remington 572 is the pump version of the 552 Speedmaster?

I had a 190.....good little plinker for $100
I currently have a 250 lever action.....paid $109 otd......put a Simmons 3x32 on it.

The 10-22 is arguably one of the more common and loved .22 Semi-Autos. I had one, ruger 10-22 Stainless target, heavy barrel, bolt buffer, mag extension, bedded action, bipod, ArchAngel stock, etc. The only thing I didn't do was replace the barrel. I am a fan of the ruger mags, being able to shoot 10 to 25 rounds in a mag and more if you really wanted to. I could never get my rifle to shoot anywhere near as accurately as my Savage Mark II BTVSS bolt action, it was very touchy when torquing the action screws, too tight and it become unreliable, even with CCI, so, when a friend wanted it I sold it to him for less than I had in it.

Been several years, and decided I wanted to add a semi-auto .22 rifle to the stable again. Now, to be fair, I already picked a cheap one up but I have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I don't know if it will be good or not, it is not a 10-22 so it will not be as upgradeable, wont have the cool mags, etc., but I am hoping it will at least be accurate at 50 yards, I can live with only 10 rounds if it will shoot moa at 50 yards. If not, I will sell it and get something else.

So, here is the question for this thread,

Do you have a .22LR Semi-Auto, that is not a Ruger 10-22, that is MOA accurate at 50 yards, and reliable no FTFs, FTEs?

Dave
I’m just repeating something I read, but apparently this guy guarantees 1/4 to 1/2 inch at 50 yards with $189 of machine work on your 10/22

I like the Marlin M60 though the factory trigger leaves some desire for tuning. I wouldn't mind a CZ bolt action.

I have my eye out for an a22. The little $200 64FV-SR is ok but hard to get more than minute of bunny with the heavy trigger.

I thought about getting the macarbo springs for it. But it is basically just a plinker.

the A22 has the accutrigger so gonna go that route. Thanks for all the input.

if that does not work then I will just stick to bolt actions.

15-16 years ago when I was shooting Service Rifle competition, I bought a dedicated 22LR AR-15 that was configured just like my match rifle. An A2 configuration with the same weight, sights and trigger as the match rifle.

It makes for some low cost practice for some of the shooting.

I would like to get a 64f but the magazine is not far enough forward of the trigger guard for me. A little farther, and it could be used as a bipod.

Picked up a Savage A22 last night, they had one in stock at Cabelas, for $260, disassembled, cleaned and oiled, now, I just need to get to the range. going to try a red dot (TRS-25) and a Bushnell Banner scope at 50 yards, goal is under 1 inch, ideal would be under .5 inch have about 10 different types of ammo to try.
Will post results when I get them, but probably not this weekend too many honeydos on my list.

My Remington 597 has been boringly reliable since I put in the Volquartzen extractor. Very accurate. Archangel chassis because the kids like the look. Nice little gun. If I were to buy another rimfire it will be Henry Large Loop or Beretta ARX160 - heard great things about them.

Yes, this Weatherby Mark XXII made in Italy. Then production moved to Japan. And then Savage bought the contract to produce, however Savage couldn’t meet Weatherby standards and the line was discontinued in about 2002, if memory serves.

Shoots under MOA at 50 yards, several ammunition types.

Those rifles make me drool!!! Love the design, but never held on in my loving hands. You're very lucky! Don't sell it, unless its to me. Ha ha!

Revisiting this post as I ruminate over a Savage 64 takedown. I’ve always wanted a Marlin 70PSS as a handy pack rifle but they’re getting tougher to find. I thought I had struck gold finally at a local store only to find I was staring at 6 Savage rifles instead. Apart from the lack of shared magazines with my 25N, the Savage checked all the boxes for me.

Another semi-auto that isn’t a 10/22 for those who may still be shopping, along with the 1-piece Model 64 that is also offered.

I've seen his work on other boards and he has a very good reputation. The cost is very reasonable, especially if it includes bedding the receiver, etc. His trigger work is especially good. Sometimes the Ruger barrel is a problem, but if you have a good one, he should be able to do a good job for you. (My B.I.L.'s rifle didn't shoot well after I worked on it, but after I installed a new barrel, it was just as good as mine.)

I love my accurized CZ bolt action with a replaced stainless fluted factory barrel. It shoots great, but also bedded the action and floated most of the .17 HMR barrel. The rifle came with a standard-weight .22 Magnum barrel that I would sell cheap. Since getting the .17 HMR barrel, I haven't re-installed the .22 Mag, but have some ammo, so it's not out of the question.

I had one, a Savage/Stevens. Yeah, the click-clack drove me nuts. It was my first .22 LR rifle and I basically shot it out by plinking and rat-shooting in open-burning dumps in the area, back in the day. I finally shot it at a target and it grouped about 10" at 40+/- yards. It was gone that day!!

Numrich usually stocks barrels for allot of older .22's.

I brought back a boltaction .22 from the dump that was embeded in the mud.
Cleaned it and discovered it had the barrel slugged.
I couldnt dislodge the obstructiin so drifed out the retainer pin and removed the action.
A month after I had a new/used repacement Marlin 81 barrel and was back in business.
The most accurate rimfire Id ever experenced to date.

I had a Stevens just like the Savage shown in the video. I shot a few .22 shorts in it, but because I belled the chamber of a Remington 514 by shooting cheap, 3 boxes of Sears Shorts for a buck, back in the day, I refuse to shoot shorts in my better rifles these days.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I don't know what it means to "bell a chamber." Would you be kind enough to give me a short description?

If you shoot a lot of .22 Shorts in a rifle, especially a cheap one like I had, the area between the mouth of the shorts and that of the long rifle ammos the steel eventually gets eroded. Then, when you fire long rifle ammo, the shells expand into the eroded area and the extractor may not create enough force to remove it and slips off. Then, you have to take a knife blade, or other sharp metal item to pry the empty shell out. I only shot .22 Shorts in a cheap Remington 514 bolt-action, which became damaged in that manner. The rifle was the cheapest Remington made in the 1950s and it was my brother's rifle, which he left for me when he went to college. I must have fired 50 boxes of those (3 boxes for a dollar) shorts and still wonder if better ammo would have done as much damage.

Love my CZ bolt action, bought with a .22 Mag. barrel, but bought a .17 HMR, heavy-fluted one and love the way it shoots. The added weight also feels great for offhand shooting. It's the perfect weight now and my favorite rimfire! The trigger is exactly 3 lbs. and perfect for hunting/plinking. Since the photo, it's now carrying a 3-9X Leupold.
