A few days ago I opened a thread showing photos of a Pre-64 M-70 Winchester that had been converted from .22 Hornet to .222 Rem., mentioning that over the years I've owned three such conversions. One, as shown in thread, a second, which was equally nice, went to a friend. The third one however was beyond hope due to a badly pitted bore and could only be redeemed by fitting a new barrel. So why not rebarrel it to .223 Rem, which would also fit and function in the action conversion done for the .222? So, along with a new barrel fitted by Douglas, why not do a full court press complete custom job: with French walnut sculpting and checking by classic stock stylist Montie Fleenor, bottom metal by Blackburn, plus metal refinements and rust blue by Wiebe. Here's how it ended up: a M-70 in a caliber that was never listed by Wihchester before 1964.
