.22lr addiction.

More .22's in the collection than anything else---just no ammo on the shelves to feed them since I won't be breaking into my stash.

Fella's;

I've come full-circle. Started with .22's, then just couldn't see the use of something that puny, and later came to fully appreciate what it is. Not that I got rid of centerfires to aquire more .22's mind you! That'd be foolish!!

I love .22's. I love how cheap they are...

Ah, I see. You have yet to venture out of the shallow end of the pool. The depths you find at the other end might blow your mind.

Exactly....In the deep end, dropping 2 grand is easy to do on just the rifle not counting optics, then you gotta feed it $10-20 a box ammo for it to perform.

Hee Hee, guess you never got into RFBR then......

How do you figure?...I mentioned in my last post the high costs on " the other end of the pool".

This can be a decent time to be hooked -instead- on 5.45x39, 7.62x39 or 7.62x54R (at least these tear up solid targets). Otherwise pay over-inflated prices for .22LR in most retail locations.

In rational times, three bricks of .22LR seemed like a decent reserve.

56% of my collection is rimfire,,,

Of my rifles and handguns,,,
56% of them are .22's.

But don't think they are/were cheap,,,
My three most valuable handguns are .22's.

If I wanted to sell one of them,,,
My Model 63 would bring more than my Model 629.

I've been offered more for my Beretta Model 87,,,
Than the Model 85 would ever bring.

But I would never sell my rimfires,,,
They are my main source of recreation.

got my first 22 from Monky Wards at Ten.

wow that was ages ago, i would still like to share 22's with
my nephews and nieces in the Future;
A N D in response "Why can't we buy any 22 LR? especially CCI Stingers"
i heard a rumor that a main reason we currently cant get the ammo is
when primers are made, they partly use the same powder that 22 uses,
thus in supply and demand, one equivocates off the other, manufacturers cant keep up >>>:D

I don't consider it a sickness at all. I love my small caliber stuff, for all the reasons already delineated here. Between the wife and I, we have six .22 caliber firearms in our safe (3 rifles and 3 handguns), and we're not done yet. Is it my favorite round? Maybe.

Winchester 9422
FN Trombone
Brno Model - 1
Browning SA-22
Colt Woodsman
S&W 17-4 with the target trigger and spur

I thought I had all the major action types covered, then I realised:

I need a

- break barrel single shot
- double barreled .22 lr
- straight pull (I forgot about this, I wondered about a Browning T-Bolt) then I discovered that Hammereli made a .22lr replica of the K31

I think I know what I have talked myself into...

Also, lots of .22s were designed by JMB, which I quite like!

I, too, have recently (in the last couple of years) come back to the not-so-lowly .22 rimfire. More than a third of my handguns are in .22, and all of my rifles are.

Since I'm not a hunter, there is nothing I might need a firearm for that cannot be satisfied by a well-handled, quality .22 one. If I had to lose all but one of my firearms, the one kept would be a .22.

Fella's;

"In rational times, three bricks of .22LR seemed like a decent reserve." In rational times three bricks wasn't a reserve, it was a weekend's fun. The only people who are now paying the current inflated prices are those who didn't have a true reserve. So what's a real reserve? In my opinion, and that's all it is, if you don't have at least, at minimum, a case put back, you don't have a reserve. That's not a case you're working through either, it's your reserve.

Scrummy, I'm gonna break your heart. You, along with all the rest of us, are missing a fully automatic .22 rimfire. Tipton made them & I've seen and actually touched one. But my chances of getting one are very remote to say the least. Besides, who has enough ammo put back to feed one? I've got a good reserve, but not that much!

I'm partial to firearms in this caliber myself. :D

They're great, but they really don't replace a lot of the fun associated with shooting the larger calibers especially in handguns that have more recoil. Ammuntion cost is very important to me, and 22's allow me to shoot as much as I want to. I do usually mix some centerfire shooting, but limit my consumption to no more than 50 rounds.

In rational times, three bricks of .22LR seemed like a decent reserve.

I felt the same way for years. That was especially true when I was in my teens and had to buy my own ammunition and didn't have a job or had a seasonal job. I SELDOM ever shot 500 rounds in a single outing and I would say I NEVER shot 500 rounds in a single outing if I were doing all the shooting myself.

I was most pleased on a recent outing shooting a Federal 550 bulk pack... not one misfire.

My first gun was a Winchester Model 57 to me by my grandfather when I was 14. The gun stil. Goes with me to the range now and then. For just fun plinking, I have a Walther P-22. There is something about a .2 that's just plain fun. Oh yeah, the Winchester took out a ton of ground hogs back many years ago.

I've come to the same conclusion too. I love shooting my 10/22 and 22/45... need a revolver and bolt action .22 at the very least as well. I have more "serious" caliber guns I want too... but my 10/22 I think is my favorite to shoot.

Flatlander;

Suggestions for that bolt .22 & the revolver: CZ452 & a Smith 17. Neither being in the bargain basement price-wise these days, but neither will either ever drop in value given good care.

I probably could be considered to have a 22RF addiction, as i have quite a few of them.

This is the one i've been shooting quite a bit lately,

That would be an Ulta Light Arms unit if I'm not mistaken. I hadn't realized that ULA made rimfires, had only heard about centerfires. What action is that based on? Come to think of it, another brand that I know builds LH .22's is Cooper, but I haven't seen one of those mentioned on any site for quite awhile.

Never heard of ULA. Educate me. Looks like a nice rifle. Lefty too.

Mel makes a GREAT gun on his own mod 20 action, single shot or repeater. He uses "threaded in" Douglas premium bbls, your choise of triggers, bbl length, weight, you pick how the stock is painted/color/design/length of pull and it's a kevlar/carbon fiber stock that he pantened and makes.

He builds them pretty much the way YOU want them, and they are light and VERY accurate.

I love the "flush" magazine, You push the little button and it pop's right out in your hand...

I may contact him on pricing and so forth. Looks like something that would really interest me. Camo stocks aren't my thing, but I try to be flexible.

Now this is weird, I was just telling my wife why I didn't need a M&P 22 and then I clicked on this thread. Must be a sign to get the M&P. ;)

DM~;

So what kinda ball park are we in with that ULA rimfire? Major league, Legion ball, or sand lot? Huh, I know we aren't in sandlot with that thing.
