First off I'm a revolver guy but I do have a pump 30.06 and pump shotgun which are not shot in the quantity of ammo that makes it a pain to pick up the brass. I picked up my Ruger Charger pistol a few months ago cause I love shooting .22lr but hate to pick up the brass. A tarp is a pain and the homemade shell collectors made out of milk cartons that I saw on utube looked hokey. Other commercial shell catchers were too big. So after some searching on other forums a poster said “just use an aquarium net.” Brilliant! So, during my weekly trip to Wally World I stopped in the fish supplies and picked up the net you see pictured for less than $2. I then placed the net along side the pistol to calculate where to make the bends so the net would cover the ejection port. Then I cut off the looped end. I then took the plastic tubing that covered the cut off hand loop and slid it over the straight piece of wire that fits nicely on the “shelf” next to the barrel. This adds more protection to the already coated wire. To secure the shell-catcher to the pistol I first used Velcro bands but I could not get them tight enough so I went with the “wrap fix” plumbing tape which is non sticky but does stick to itself and is reusable. The shell-catcher is easy to attach and holds many .22lr cases. I think this could also be used on the full size Ruger 10/22 .
