Congrats on the purchase of a fine rifle. I don't own an Axis but I do own several Savages and have shot the Axis in .308. I don't think you will be disappointed. The ammo selection you chose is some of the better I've found in off the shelf stuff. It's performed flawlessly for me on deer in the 140gr variety out of my Savage 110 .270. Enjoy and happy shooting.

I have bought the Savage Axis 25-06 and I have 117gr. Hornady BT SST rounds.

Nice! I love my 25-06. I've probably killed more deer with it than any other rifle in my safe. Congrats on an excellent choice!

I think that I will be very happy with it. I am now thinkin bout tryin to find some good paper and gofer rounds. I think that the 117 gr. BT SST's will do just fine on deer and "speed goats"

Won't bore you with ballistics-my Rem 700 25-06 w/ 100gr Noslers @3200fps have taken 40+ Al deer nsince 1982 (1 w/ 120gr factory load-went 3 steps). My wife's 7mm-08 nhas taken 5 Al deer all but 1 drt, w/ Nosler Particitians, the exception jumped a fence and went 50 yds. The 7mm will use a little less powder to reload, the 25-06 for was stellar accurate. Work on both and choose.

For a long range varmint and deer gun its hard to beat a good rifle in 25-06. Infact I use 2 rifles for all my hunting needs. A sako 85 classic in 25-06 and winchester EW m70 in 338 win mag.
25-06 for deer and smaller
338 win mag for deer and bigger
I had a 7-08 along with 223, 308, 30-06, and 300 wm but decided to liquidate and get two rifles I could hunt anything with and after many weeks of research I came up with those two calibers and rifles. So long story short, get the 25-06

I have both. I bought the 7/08 first. If I had bought the 25/06 first, I would not be able to say that. I find I can do anything with my 25/06 that I could do with my 7/08 but really heavy bullets. My 7/08 does not throw heavies well though so I am pretty much break even.

I will say as a reloader, there are more options in 7mm than 25 though.
