.257 Vanguard

I have a Vanguard series 2 in 257 Weatherby. Hits deer like a bolt of lightning. Shooting 117gr Sierra GameKings, the only deer I had take a step after the shot was a bad shot on my part.

I have a circa 2000-2004 .257mag Vanguard.
The only thing wrong with it is it only has a 24” barrel.
I’ve mostly shot deer with 100gr Hornady PtSpts Interlocks.
It really shines with RL25. Gets 3,650fps with a 100gr, and 3,350fps with a 117-120gr bullet.

I did have to replace the ATROCIOUS original trigger. The lowest it would adjust was 8.5lbs with creep. I replaced it with a Timney. Not great, but dramatically better.
It’s a bit heavy at 11lbs with a 3-9x Nikon Buckmaster scope.
Brass is the biggest issue, but they do last a long time.
Mine is slightly better than MOA accurate.

Wow! That’s a smart looking rifle at a decent price.

If I didn’t have .257 WM fully bracketed by other calibers, I would certainly be heading over to BPS to buy one.

Stay safe.

I have one as well. I agree about both the 24” barrel and the terrible trigger. I really need to dig it out and sell it so I can buy a LH Weatherby like I always wanted.

I have a S2 Vanguard in 257 Weatherby. This rifle is a laser beam on the prairie. Three years ago I took a big White tail buck at 380 yards. One shot, he jumped, stumbled and fell to a 100 grain Swift Scirocco through the lungs. Recoil on this rifle feels like an equal weight 270 Win. Accuracy of the 257 Wby is clearly a winner with the Swifts, 110 grain Accubonds, 117 grain Interlocks sand 120 grain Partitions. I can’t go wrong with this rifle.

Ten years ago,I bought a new Weatherby Vanguard rifle chambered in .257 Weatherby Magnum from Fin Feather Fur Outfitters in Ashland, Ohio for $299.99. Like too many things, I bought the rifle simply because it was a good price but something I had no earthly use for. A friend of mine bought one from the same establishment at the same time. I enjoyed shooting his on a couple of occasions but I never dirtied the bore on mine. I'd sell my never fired Weatherby (Howa) rifle for $450.00 if anybody's interested.

I have an original wood stocked vanguard in 257 WM so I’m kind of set. But if cerokote and brown was my cup of tea this would be hard to look away from.
