Thats was cool. What a nice looking rifle. Did you notice how little sight elevation he was using on the flip up sight for the long range shots? Of course it looks like they are shooting from the top of a hill too.

I used to be on a lease where you could sit on the side of a hill and shoot into a plowed field as far away as you wanted. I never shot that far but I did shoot out to around 600 yards. It surprised me how easy it was to hit a spot you had picked out after you got the range. I have shot my 30-30 out to 300 yards and shot a couple of bowling balls to giblets with that gun. And I never missed a single time. What was really surprising was how hard it still hit at that range.

I think it's funny that some folks look down on the good old 30-30 as being barely enough for short range deer. Multiple generations knew better and it's still a great cartridge that can do just about anything if the shooter is up for the challenge . I've never shot 30-30 past 200 yards but I'm not a long range shooter, takes too long to get down to the target and back :uhoh:. Not many ranges around here go beyond 200-300 yards and 100 yards is the norm.

No doubt that Australian guy can shoot, pretty impressive .

I shoot my 30-30 out to wherever I please as well. Just not at game past 150yds. These days I'm more comfortable in the 100yds or under area with my spectacles, and I'd never put a scope on a 30-30, so that's where I sit. Simple enough for me to pick up a different rifle with easier reach/accuracy.

Always liked my levers. Don't under estimate them at long range.

1160 yards with a taped on sight. I don't think I could even see the target, let alone line up the sights at that distance. I hunted with a 94 30-30 for about 25 years until my eyes started to slip and we changed to more open, longer distance shooting but to me there's still no better woods gun than a 30-30. So quick and handy.

It wasn't even a real flip up ladder sight. He had it taped to the barrel for this demonstration. !?

Just keep in mind that the 45-70 running BP at 1300 fps with open sights was used for many years in 1000 yard comp. The 30-30 was the flatest game in town 125 years ago. I've used a ruger 44 mag revolver at 300 yards on steel. Know your range and trajectory and the rest is easy.

At a local range that I belong to, there is a "manbun" in his late 20s who come in about once weekly to shoot his AR. His AR has 3-12X variable scope, red light, white light, infrared light, red dot, and fuzzy dice hanging off the front. He shoot baseball size groups at 25 yard targets, from a lead sled. He needs to go back to basics.
