Bolt action 30-30

I've owned a Springfield 840,30-30 bolt action for 40 plus years and like it very much. It's a walnut stocked, magazine fed, nicely blued rifle.I payed 60 bucks used from a sport shop.I've shot many 1 inch groups with it with my hand loads but prolly average 1 1/5 inch most of the time.Built by Savage the Springfields were top of their line . hdbiker

Brownings first semiauto rifle, the Remington model 8, was made in 35 Rem. In fact that is where the cartridge originated. Not quite a 30-30 and more liked a souped up 30-30. I'd look for one of those. Gun Stories last year had a nice episode dedicated to it. Looked like a sweet little rifle.

The Dragonov's shoot a rimmed cartridge in a semi automatic rifle (7.62 x 54R) but for the life of me I don't know why anyone would go to the trouble to build a semi auto in 30-30.

It was also available in 30 Remington which was essentially a rimless 30/30

I just looked at one of my OLD Lyman loading manuals and found data for semiautos in 30 and 32 Remington. They were listed with 30-30 nd 32 WS, using said data and same case dimensions but were rimless. I remember having a slide action Rem in 30 and using 30-30 data.

I particularly like my 30 30 encore for most things.

The 336 lever is awesome with a stubby suppressor if you are into that sort of thing.

Killed plenty of deer with that old 30 30 pump as well. I think If I had to pick only one it would be the lever, but I suppose that doesnt really help you too much lol.

I have never had one, but a bolt action could be fun if you are into cast bullets. Different if nothing else.

a nice win 94 brings just enough power in a package that travels through thick woods easily, has enough accuracy and range for thick eastern woods. And will do it for decades

I don't see any advantage in carrying a semi 7.62 x 39 weapon for hunting, unless that's all you have or think you may run into a meth lab in the woods. both my sks and ak are bulkier and heavier than the 94 for about the same ballistics.

When I was younger I thought lever actions were Elmer Fudd guns, i thought they were boring, until I borrowed a win 94 in Alaska and it was my fishing companion for a month. I was hooked, bought a pre 64 shortly after getting home.

Maybe I am now so old Fudd is cool.

pump 30-30

I have a Savage 170 in 30-30 Winchester, it's tube fed (flat nose bullets) and has a Tasco 3-9x40 scope,
and prints just under 2" @ 100, good enough for Bambi. :D I don't know what year it was made, but very cool.
