I put together a 300 Blackout carbine with an18 inch barrel. I can only find 110 gr and 220 gr target ammo. I was thinking of loading some 150 gr or 160 gr interlocks. Has anyone had any experience with loading up hunting ammo for this round?

You might have trouble getting those 150/160 grain bullets to expand well in the little .300. Max velocities will be under 2100 fps with either bullet. Probably better to use 125/130 grain bullets IME - assuming that the targets are deer. Softer bullets like the 150 SST may work, although I’ve never tried them at that low velocity.

.

I would go with the Speer 125gn TNT. I did this with a 16.5" barrel at about 60 yards.

With your barrel length, I would suggest lighter bullet weights. This was a white tail deer.

ETA this was a handload using IMR 4227

I don't hunt with the blackout. Have a loaded a bunch of 150 grainers for my Model 7 AAC Blackout. I use H110. Won't publish the load since it is over max. But not by much. I found my load accurate enough.

Like said above, if hunting, you will want to make sure the bullet chosen is designed for the parameters you have. Slower speed mostly and expansion would be my worries. Same as for others who have posted.

I have used the 150’s Hornady sends out as their “free” bullets. They work but a .22 can also work.

I actually tired a number of different projectiles before it was suggested that I try these.

Turned the round into something that didn’t work very well for me to a one shot stop machine. I got comfortable with it after the first dozen pigs, the only ones that didn’t fall in their tracks, were already running and rolled up instantly. Nothing else I tried (mostly stuff that’s more appropriate for 308-300wm but also down to 125’s) even came close but I also stopped looking so there are probably others that would do the job.

Barnes now also makes a 120gr boat-tail version of that bullet. Supposedly works very similar with slightly better penetration due to the extra weight, probably better suited to longer barreled (16+ inch) 300 BO guns to keep the velocity up.

I have found the 110gr work fine on deer sized animals out to about 125yds. as long as you do your part & hit vitals.

Hodgdon has data for the Hornady 150 SST's; Seats long (OAL2.235) so the channelure remains outside the case, but the data in Hodgdon's manuals or online will send it in the 1950 fps range (CFEBlk as the powder, 19.9 grains).
