"300" - The Movie

Why can't somebody try to do an historical epic showing historical tactics?

How about because no one in their right mind would pay $10 to watch two solid, immovable lines of warriors slug it out FTF for 3 hours or however long the movie is. Hoplite tactics aren't exactly the most dynamic or intriguing. Wars may be won by gradual attrition, but that makes for one incredibly boring movie.

Not with a laugh track added.

I loved "the 13th Warrior" even though almost nothing about it was historically accurate. They had 17th century Spanish armor! But it was still a great movie with great fight scenes.

I agree, that film has really grown on me. I think it's because they didn't play the northmen as braid dead slugging machines, but intelligent men.

**SPOILER**

Too bad it has your typical Crichton ending:
"...and then at the direst moment where all seemed doomed, the ______ just went away."

But then again, the novel was really cool too...

**BOOK SPOILER**

(except the crazy chapter about magical dwarves!)
