300 Win Mag Hunting Rifle Questions

In No California, I have not located a single Tikka rifle. I have looked at many LGS's but to no avail. I am going to the Cabelas store in Reno this coming weekend or the next. I will see if they have one there so I can fondle it. Yes, Tikka and Sako, especially the A7 series are on my list.

I went shopping today at various LGS that I normally do not frequent. I found a store that carried Tikka and Sako. I really liked the Sako A7 Dangerous game model. The price was full retail at $1,300! Yikes and the manager would not budge. I was really surprised at the quality of the Tikka rifles. I liked the T3 Lite but it was marked from $675-850 depending on the stock and steel/stainless. Yikes again.
SO I continued shopping. I returned to my favorite LGS. It is the LGS that I done business with for a decade but they do not specialize in hunting rifles at all. I told the owner I wanted a Tikka or Sako. He advised he does not do business with Beretta anymore. He advised he did sell Tikka and Sako years ago. He said he may still have a Tikka that never sold, NIB. It was a Tikka T3 Lite in 7mm Rem Mag. It was listed at $600 on the price tag. Long story short, I bought it for under $500 OTD. I also ordered a Remington 700 SPS stainless in 300 Win Mag for just under $600.
So I got two quality rifles within my original budget. I have 7mm Mag dies just need to scrounge some brass up now. I knew I would eventually get a 7mm Mag, just sooner than I thought. I just have to wait the obligatory ten days for my rifles to get out of gun-jail.

Thanks for all the help. I was shocked how smooth the Tikka action was. I am going to look into Sako for a new long range rifle.

I owned a Winchester Model 70 chamered in 300 WSM and LOVED it. Id recommend finding a 2001 or around there model when it was built at the old factory. EXCELLENT firearms.

Cool Codefour, I have a Tikka T3 in 300 win mag, and have killed a few animals with it. I do like how lite they are and how smooth their guns action.

Just hit the pawnshops and find you a good used Rem.700. They are common around my parts at this time of year. You should be able to find a good clean one.

I understand it being hard to locate a Tikka, you have to know to look under Beretta on Bud's website. Once that is mastered took about 10 seconds to find;

I have three Tikka's, a .338 Winchester magnum Whitetail Hunter, a .30-06 T-3 lite, and a 6.5 Swede full custom on the Tikka action. Fine rifles, but I agree with your LGS, Beretta customer service is third-rate. I don't buy too many rifles anymore, the niches are filled, but do take a look at the CZ's. Particularly if you want a new .22 these days.

I bought the Remington 700 in 300 Win Mag. The trigger was set at a little over 6 lbs! The stock was total garbage. I replaced the stock with a Bell and Carlson. I had to turn both trigger screws all the way to get it just over 3 lbs. The Tikka has a better trigger.
The Tikka T3 Lite is in 7mm Rem Mag. I have to say, the simplicity and smoothness of the Tikka was amazing. The bolt was smooth. I greased it and it got even smoother. The trigger was 3.5 lbs from the factory. The trigger adjustment was super easy. I adjusted it to just under 3 lbs and it is clean with no creep. The rifle is super light too. The magazine is a tad chinsy,
I think I am going to veer away from Remington. I have several older ones and some custom builds for target shooting. I love them but Remington has gone down hill. Their X mark trigger was not my new favorite. My next high end rifle, will probably be a Sako or another Tikka.

For me I went with the Savage 116 SS.
But I tinker a bit and put it in a B&C Medalist stock and screwed a Bartlein barrel on it.
Also have a New Haven Win M70 classic stainless in a HS Precision stock and a Benchmark barrel. Both in .300 WM and get the job done.
I like stainless, the hunts are long days in bad weather and sometimes it's hard to take proper care of your rifle.
