I was thinking that with the increased case diameter compared to that of the .300 Winchester Magnum, it would be much more suitable to high caliber wildcatting say up to .45 caliber while still having plenty of shoulder left for headspacing. Has anyone heard of a high caliber .300 WSM wildcats?

edit-I made a boo boo and put WSSM instead of WSM as the thread title

I ordered an upper in WSSM necked up to .35 caliber. Legal for deer in Indiana (funny regs...don't ask). Launches a 200 grain @ maybe 2,800 fps.

FWIW...unless you have a REAL unusual situation (like mine), it's rarely worth the extra cost and effort unless you're itching to spend money on something that's probably already been done better and cheaper.

No matter what kind of little tweaks you dream up for case design, a given amount of powder gives a certain amount of speed with a given bullet.
