I ordered a 300PRC+P from Defensive Edge back in January, and it finally came in. A good bit of the delay was waiting on the scope.
I want to try the long range shooting but also want to use it for deer hunting here in the FL panhandle where 150lbs is a decent sized buck. Do any of you have any bullet or load recommendations?
I looked for brass once I placed the order and was never able to find any. I ended up with 300 rounds of factory ammo and will use that brass as I shoot it up.

Thanks

Well, keeping in mind I hunt Florida white tails with a .357Magnum, and the .30-30 is still real popular because it works, I think you'll find the PRC is a little bit of overkill.

I've used my 300WM for deer (whitetails & mulies) a few times out in western KS. Our deer are bigger, but there's only one degree of dead, also in western KS the distances are generally greater.

I used 165 grain Sierra Game Changers at 3100+ and they've worked well, accurate and effective. One thought is to just download the PRC and create a 30-06 or .308 deer load for it if your expected distances don't warrant a full up load. You can also minimize meat loss by selecting a heavier and stoutly constructed bullet something in the 200+ grain range like the Bergers won't tear up too much if you go for a double lung shot.

You just won, "Understatement of the Year" award. :D

I think my longest shot up in Escambia years ago when I went up there (before Ivan) was under 100 yds. If you go near Eglin AFB or Duke, Hurlburt Fields - there is some hunting around there but the rules are really complex - watch out for the SERE and Rangers trainees. They'll see you long before you see them and some of them guys got wicked senses of humor. FWIW the fishing up in Escambia River is awesome. If you're into that kind of thing.

I don't hunt the res any, have my own property with big fields near Bonifay. I know about their wicked sense of humor though; we've even helped them out a bit a few times with that I'm sure.

I'm worried about overkill, not under kill. It sounds like a 215gr Berger ought to do the job without destroying a ton of meat if I'm careful with my shots.

Well shoot, cuz, why didn’t you say it was private land? Yeah, go with less velocity and a flat nose if you can. Sorry but the biggest thing I used up there was a .35Rem. I know folks who claim neck shots with a 220gr Sierra RN in .300WSM is the perfect recipe.

Don't shoot them where the meat is and you'll do fine. One thing you can try is shoot some groups with that factory ammo and tune the seating depth to tighten things up a bit.

I have a bit of load development using 225 ELD and 245 Elites with H1000 and Ramshot LRT but component shortages kinda put that project on hold.

Son in law uses a 270 wsm, Daughter likes her 300 weatherby mag, she says they don’t run very far
Dead is Dead

Haha 300 PRC vs 150 pound deer ,Just label it venison burger with hair On it , definitely overkill for deer IMO
They dont run that far when killed with my 280 ai
Or the 6.5,creed, and my wife shot a 5x5 bull elk this year WITH her creed @415,yrds it was DRT
30 CAL shoulder cannon wouldn't have killed it and faster. elk/deer are not bullet proof take out the vitals they die. I also don'tbelieve in the 1500 ft/lbs for elk 1000,for deer theory eithier

My sil hit a doe with the 270 wsm this year, blew the crap out of her, freaking shreaded the whole shoulder.

I thought to myself JC that’s a lot of dead…..
