.308 Best Caliber EVER!

pretend we started from a clean slate. No previous rifle designs, no common brass or bullets. Few people would go for the 308. As a hunting round it's fine, but as a military round, it leaves a lot to be demanded. A slightly shortened 6.5-08 (ala 264 boston or 260 ghengis) would be a better choice imho. better ballistics, less recoil, with the right bullet, better penetration.

How long have you been into the shooting sports?

I only ask because I've only been at this for a couple years, and yet I haven't been able to form opinions as concrete as you... probably because I've been slacking.

-sven, ready for another Bay Area shoot

I'm not a gun nut. I just play one on the bullitin boards :)
No really, when I get 'into' something, be it chem or cryptology or psytrance or guns, I try and study all that I possibly can about that subject until I'm like, okay, got to get a life :)
But seriously I bought my first gun in 2001. I was 19 at the time.

steyr prohunter mountain stainless, .308, vari-x III weaver mount, hornady load # 8098.

1/3" 3 shot group at 100 yds. Have seen the same load kill deer in thier tracks....actually have not seen one get up from a properly placed .308 of good construction. shoot what you like, and shoot it well. I wouldn't sell this gun for love, money, or blood

Well if anyone has decided Zorro is correct and .308's are crap and need to clean up their collection I'll gladly accept them just as relics to marvel and laugh at. I'll give them a good home where they will all be happy and respected in retirement of course.

I'm opening Jedi's retirement hope for unwanted .308's spaces available now.

:D :D :D :D :D
