Alright ladies and gentlemen,
I'm looking for advice and guidance on building on a Palmetto State 308 lower. Initially I was set on putting a 308 upper on it, but now I'm not so sure. I see alot of talk about 6.5 creedmor and there are other calibers as well but I'm just not familiar with them. I was in the military so my familiarity is pretty much based on NATO ammunition size.
I'm also unsure about barrel size. I initially had read that the pressure of a 308 round makes anything more than a 20 inch barrel unneccesary. But since I'm no longer locked into the 308 caliber I'm not as sure as I was previously.
I also have realistic expectations. I don't have the eyesight for truly long distance shooting so I'm probably maxed out at 300 meters. I don't expect to be competitive, I would just like to be proficient.
Further, my main goal is to assemble an operational 308 lower based rifle so I can practice milling my own 80% lowers.
Any advice, guidance, warnings or hazings will be appreciated.
