well I have narrowed it down to 3 choices, also how important is adjustable parallax if I will be shooting 100 to 500 yards , I have the diamondback already but considering others the ones I have in the poll are on sale at my LGS the Burris is $199 seems like a good sale, my diamondback does not have parallax adjustment the Burris does and the HP does, I shoot lots of pistol and my rifles are iron sights , I have used scopes but never spent lots of time with them, The guy at my LGS said the burris and diamondback hp are both a step up due to the adjustable parallax ? Also not looking anything more than 4-12 or 4 -14 power , and mostly looking between these 3 scopes
so what say you all ?
how about the warranty Vortex vs Burris ?
Thanks for any help/advise

I voted for the Burris as I feel they are better in low light. I find no need for parallax adjustment until distances are further than I can ethically shoot.

Everyone is different, for an all around rifle I want the low end magnification no larger than 3X. Warranty is great with both companies.

please disregard the Vortex Diamondback HP 4-12x40 choice is needs to be Diamondback HP 4-16x42

I have but I want to stick with the diamondback as a minimum wouldn't a crossfire be a step down from the diamondback ?

grice has-had 3x9-40 vertix-1 leupold scopes on sale for 149+tax, they are very good scopes with the life time no matter who bought it or owns it warrenty. i bought several. that deal can,t be beat. eastbank

I wouldn't buy a Burris. . . they don't have the No Questions warranty of Vortex or Leupold.

So, I'd choose a Vortex or Leupold.

i sent a used burris(made in the usa) in years ago that was not as clear as i thought it should have been, they would not fix it, instead they wanted to sell me one at their cost. i told them to keep the damn scope and hung up of them. i have one burris i bought in a box of junk scopes thats not to bad and will live out its life on a .22.eastbank.

burris sure seems to have mixed reviews, seems most are happy with vortex if there is a warranty issue !
whats the opinion on the vortex tactical line

I have the diamondback hp on a ar10 308, the burris on a ruger american 243, and a crossfire II on a 24 inch heavy barrelled 223. the burris is the brighter scope and most user friendly. the vortex are very recent acquisitions. while they are decent they are not the game changers people seem to think they are. jmho, dc

Every Burris optic is covered by the Burris Forever Warranty™. We will repair or replace your Burris optic if it is damaged or defective. The warranty is automatically transferred to future owners.

  • No repair or replacement charge
  • No warranty card needed
  • No receipt needed
  • No questions asked
The Burris Forever Warranty does not cover loss, theft, deliberate damage or cosmetic damage that does not hinder the performance of the product.

Burris CS has really upped their game the last couple of years.

I have a Burris E-1 Full Field 3x-9x-40mm on my Weatherby Vanguard VGX .30-06. It seems to be very clear to me. It does not have the A.O., which I wish it did have, It is set up with Buehler Mounts as well. I still have to sight in this rifle. Other friends of mine have Burris scopes and swear by them, a couple have the Posi Lock system too.

The Burris FF-II is my top recommendation in a budget scope. Vortex has great glass, I like their binoculars. But don't like their scopes.

If you want to move up a bit in quality a Leupold VX-2 is a great option.

Even better are the Cabelas labeled scopes made by Meopta. Or if you can find a Meopta.

My name is CDB and I endorse jmr40's post. I just happen to have a Conquest and MeoPro and worked the Gun Counter part time at Cabela's for two years. Took the scopes to work one day to compare with the Cabela's Euro and they are exactly like the Conquest - which Meopta made for Zeiss.

Everyone's criteria is different but IMO the best bang for your buck scope you can get today is the 3.5-10x44 Meopta MeoPro from Camera Land. No tax if you don't live in New York and free shipping.

$349.99 to your door. I'm also a huge fan of Camera Land and by my optics from them if they have or can get it.

The Burris FF-II is a great scope. I've used several and would highly recommend them. They are durable, great in low light, hold zero well, just an all around great scope for the price.

I've used Burris's warranty and I've found it to be great as well. I bought an old beat up 8-32 Signature Series scope that looked rough off of the internet. It turns out I got it cheap because it wouldn't focus as higher magnifications. I sent it to Burris and they had no issues fixing it for me. I had it back in a couple of weeks. Having also dealt with both Leupold and Vortex's customer service, I didn't feel like I received any less service from Burris.

thanks for all the input I ended up buying a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 on sale at lgs for $299 just couldn't pass it up ,

I haven't checked to see what the Burris warranty SAYS, but I can tell you what it DOES.

I bought a FFII 4.5-14x42 used from a forum member on RimfireCentral. The seller said the scope was like new with very faint ring marks. What I received was a scope that had clearly been abused by having been cranked down in a set of rings so hard that the tube was badly dented. The scope wouldn't focus clearly at any distance. I sent it to Burris with a letter asking them how much it would cost to fix it. About 2 weeks later I received a NIB replacement, no questions asked. The scope I sent in had CLEARLY been abused, but they just sent me a brand new one.

Turns out I LOVE the scope, and have bought three more since then. I've tested the scope very carefully against my Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 and my Japan-made Sightron SII 6-24x42, and several other scopes. I used an optical resolution target and made careful notes on the results. At any given magnification from 4.5-14x the Burris is slightly better than the Vortex Viper or Sightron SII in terms of clarity and resolution, and overall it is a VERY pleasant scope to look through. I like both the Vortex and the Sightron, but but the Burris is slightly more pleasant to look through -- just seems to make my eye relax. I have this Burris model on several of my guns, including this CZ 527 (in case someone wants to see how they look on a gun).

While we're at it, here's the Viper and one of the Sightrons.

Neat, good to know Burris will do that. I don't know that I'd depend on it, but I'll keep them in mind.

Also, that is a gorgeous 527. It that a factory stock (with the toe), or aftermarket?

Thanks! That's one of 120 factory custom 527 Classics (Americans) that CZ did back about 7 years ago. It has a special finish on the wood plus the mahogany grip and forend caps.
