Hi

Thanks Everyone I just got one on Gunbroker .
Wanted to make sure I could get the right ammo .
Scatched and pitting but I couldn't resist her .

Thanks again , Bill

Wasn't the 1903 chambered in .32 ACP and the 1908 chamberd in .380 ACP?? They are in reality the same pistol in diffrent calibers, but still diffrent model numbers.

Dang. I own a 1903 Colt in .32, and the same gun in .380, which I thought was also a model 1903. So I was preped to point out your error until I checked this website:

http://www.coltautos.com/

And did the drop down menu for "Quick Search" of models. Sure enough, you're right. The .380 is a Model 1908. And just to confuse matters, I also have the 1908 Vest Pocket in .25 ACP.

Thanks for setting me straight.

Never too old to learn

Thats a nice little gun. I have a 1903 Colt in 32 ACP myself. Bought it about 32 years ago for $80. Fun little shooter. Always easy to find your bullet, just fire it into a piece of hardwood and you can pick it right out. never got around to getting any dies and reloading for it. I wonder what its worth now?

Breaking down the .32

Been having trouble with the break down of this Colt. The removal of the slide begins with I'll call it a ( button ) below the barrel . However the trouble might be with a bent or stuck pin not allowing me to remove the barrel . Can any body suggest how to break down this .32 step by step properly . It is a Colt .32 smokeless rim less pocket .32.

Hi, Irishbeener,

Takedown of the Model 1903 .32 ACP does not involve the button below the barrel. To take the pistol down, cock it and remove the magazine. Then retract the slide to the point where the arrow line on the right front of the slide lines up with the frame, then turn the barrel counterclockwise (as looked at from the front of the gun.) With the barrel turned, the slide should come off the frame. The barrel can then be turned back and removed from the front of the slide.

That should be enough for normal cleaning. Further disassembly is NOT repeat NOT recommended; that gun comes apart easy and goes together hard.

(The trick of pushing in the front "button" applies to the dual link Colts, like the other 1903, the .38 ACP hammer gun.)

Two comments: First, the .32 ACP is not actually rimless; it is semi-rimmed. Second, the early .32 and .380 frames are not identical except for caliber; the mag well of the early .32's is smaller and too small for the .380 magazine. Later, Colt apparently made the frames identical.

Also note that the model numbers (dates) have been assigned by collectors; Colt never used them.

A hefty yank

Mine takes a pretty "hefty yank" to remove the slide once the barrel is off. I had a heck of a time the first go round.

Same with mine - the slide needs a little extra help - doesn't slide off like the newer autos -

also, I need an original magazine for mine - 32 auto - if anyone has one for a fair price let me know.
