I had a couple .38spl's for my wife, but the recoil wasn't something she enjoyed shooting. I plan on renting a reamer and reaming out the cylinder so it can chamber 32 H&R magnum rounds.

My friend has sold me on the fun factor that the 32's have. Light recoil and fun to shoot. I picked up a Taurus 761 last month and the 31-1 this month. I was able to score some 32 magnum brass, once fired for $.10 a piece. 350 cases followed me home.

The nice thing is the MAP for these loads aren’t too far off, roughly 15,000 psi for the S&W Long and 21,000 psi for the H&R, so you should be fine with H&R loads that are sensible in the Model 31-1.

I load some 115 gr LSWC H&R loads that are pretty stout for my Single Six on occasion. Those I would not fire in a Model 31 conversion or original H&R revolver.

Let us know how she shoots it when you get a chance.

Stay safe.

A couple of excellent revolvers.

I also have a 31-1, but haven't fired it yet. I have an I-frame Regulation Police in 32L that I shoot regularly, it is a great shooter; accurate and fun.

I have 2 of the Taurus M76 in 32L. I've been contemplating reaming one of them to 32 H&R, but so far that's as far as I've gotten. The 76 is a blast to shoot. Very accurate revolver, heavy enough to dampen any recoil.

Very nice acquisitions!

Those are both very nice! I too am interested to see how the reaming goes. I have been looking for a 30/31 for a while and have not seen one even close to as nice as that. I still get nervous about used guns online.

You have a couple of nice looking revolvers there. That 31 looks brand new. Is your Taurus new? Every Taurus I have seen in the past couple of years has been stainless steel. It looks great.
Congratulations on both.
Thank you. The Taurus was made in 1993/1994, the best that I can tell.

have you shot any 32 S&W long yet? If not your in for a real treat. Or your wife is.

Shoot first, let HER shoot first, then ream... or not.

That's a fairly collectible gun (S&W) you have in near new condition.
Another gratuitous .32 pic, but maybe instead of modifying that 31-1 you might want to pick up a Charter Undercoverette in .32 H&R for the wife. 32-Family.jpg
(The earlier picture of the 31-1 had a set of Filipino stocks on it, but the orangy color didn't look quite right. So, back to the Magnas with a grip adapter.)

I had several Charter Arms, including a 3" Undercover made in 1986. This S&W is definitely a sweetheart and will get passed to our daughter someday. I paid about $450 plus fees. I sold the Undercover for $400 so I think I did alright.

Was. Once it's reamed it's only worth what a used shooter in .32H&R will bring. No collectible value at all.

FWIW, there's no need to ream out a Model 31. The .32S&W Long loaded with the same bullets is perfectly capable of stopping a "bad guy" with good shot placement. But, it's his gun. Darn shame he couldn't find a beater to chew up and spit out but, that's how it goes. Just makes the few remaining nice ones worth more.

Good points! If your a hand loader it is very easy to get 100 grain bullets either SWC or Full Wadcutter lead bullets to go 100-150 FPS faster than anemic factory ammo at barely 650 FPS safely. Enjoy the .32 Long, it’s a great cartridge.

I seem to recall Buffalo Bore has or had a couple of PD .32S&W Long/Colt New Police offerings. Not cheap but factory defense ammo never is.

My 76.
100gr Hornady XTP, 11.2gr Hodgdons Lil’Gun.
25yds

I also have a Ruger Single-7 .327, and two S&W .32 Hand Ejectors
Also, a Ruger .30Carbine BlackHawk...

That's what I was leaning toward with my comment. Leaning hard....

I know this is the revolver thread, but just wanted to mention that Hammerli made a very well regarded target pistol in .32 S&W wadcutter.

Ridiculously, it may be considered an assault weapon in certain jurisdictions because it loads with the magazine in front of the trigger guard, rather than in the grip.
