My favorite .357 is the previously mentioned model 65 LS. Great shooting gun!
I also have a model 60LS. It is great for carrying, but not too much fun to shoot .357's from.
My absolute favorite revolver to shoot is a model 629 (Dirty Harry special). That's one FINE shooting revolver!
The Ruger SP101 .38 is great because it's not to small, not to big. Small enough to conceal, big and heavy enough not to kick to much. Like Goldie Locks says, it's juuust right.
Why would you get a .357 for her first gun? Wouldn't a .38 Spl be more practical for her? She'll end up shooting .38s in it anyway. The SP101 can shoot +P .38s for the rest of her life and then some.
Alternatively, I think the SP101 .32 Mags are super dandy for anyone, but more so for a person's first gun, moreso yet for a woman's first gun.
