38-55 vs 35 Remington

Thanks fellers.

Shawnee, there is a Golden 39A in the center of the top picture. It is a .22 and a squirrel/critter killing machine. The old 39A will shoot with most target rifles. They are amazing. I have two 39A's, a pair of model 60's and a Winchester 190. The 39A's are about all that I shoot though.

PTK, I haven't gotten a BC yet but they are on the list. I seen that the 38-55 has been discontinued. Still see a few NIB on the auction sites so I may get one if I ever have any gun money to spend. The Marlin lever guns shoot with really good accuracy as well. After I got the right load going down range it will shoot the clover leaf groups too when I do my part. Lot's of folks are under the impression that these old calibers won't shoot. Just isn't the case. I have amazed many bolt guys at the range here when I pull out a lever gun and pop those 200 yard gongs. With the right bullet and load I wouldn't hesitate to take a good shot on an elk at 200 with the old 38-55.

MMCSRET, I would like to see that Winchester.

I found one in a store, on sale, AFTER they were discontinued. Snatched it right up and ate very little for a week or two. :D

As for folks being under the impression of old calibers being useless, BOY did I show up a "cool" guy with a tricked-out AR-15... he couldn't hold everything on target (BIG paper target) at 200 yards, and I was making cloverleafs at that range with my "old" caliber.

I'm currently using .376" 255gr LFN bullets from Montana Swaging over 24.1gr of H4895. REALLY accurate, about 1450FPS, and no leading to speak of.

Thanks guys, I like my Marlins now. Dad caused all this. I think I have to many Marlin leverguns now. Got a couple Winchesters but I am partial to the Marlins.

If you like leverguns or just the old calibers try a 336 CB 38-55 or the H&R The 38-55 will amaze you at what they will do.

PTK, I have to shoot a little bigger bullet in my Marlin's. They have a .380 bore and the .375 to .378 bullets don't shoot real well in it. .379 and .380's work very well.
