.38 Short Colt

Catpop---Any increase / decrease in accuracy with shortened rounds over full length .38spl rounds ?

I'm only shooting a 3 inch barrel, (.357) but my .38 CS loads are on par with some .38 spl. factory practice loads I have. That means okay at best. (4 to 5 inch 5 shot groups at 25 yds) My .38 and mild .357 loads are more accurate.

BUT the bullets I've been using in .38 CS are way too hard & have caused a little leading. 158 gr loaded long, with 2.7 gr Titegroup.

I've got some softer 140 gr bullets but haven't loaded any yet. I'll probably discontinue my .38 CS experiments though. I've loaded .38 up to +p+ and down for very mild recoil in my steel gun.

I haven't loaded .357 in a bit, either. For me I think .38 special can do it all from my gun.

First test was spectacularly better!!!
2nd test fell on its face evidently due to operator error!!!! I couldn’t hit a bull in the ass with a spade that day!
Anyone else ever experience this rare phenomena?
3rd test coming soon!

Only every third or fourth time I go shooting. I’m one of those first shot-best shot shooters. After the second cylinder I’m just wasting primers.

I love those days when the stars align, and it seems that no matter what I do I'll hit the bullseye. Those days are rare though, but that's what keeps me coming back.

Most days I'm happy if I hit the middle third of the target.

9DA85279-F1B1-44C5-978E-53FD4981AA10.jpeg I finally got to put 5 more down range.
I put 5 in a 2” group from 11 yards.
Nothing great, but better than any of my 38 spc groups THAT day.
I’m going to try some 100-125 gr RN next.
Add: I was using snub nose this time instead of 4” SW10.
Add: I found some West Coast 124 grain pc and loaded 5 up. I looked for some 125 RN but couldn’t find a one to use. Will test shortly. see pic
