Thank You. I'm pretty sure at this point I can cook up a load with the XTP's that works for her now. The cool thing is that as she gets more comfortable with it, I'll be able to pump it up into SD rounds with the same bullets.
Frankly, as we discussed in another thread, I'd feel better with wadcutters for SD in a revolver this small as I now feel that getting expansion at reduced velocities is iffy even with the XTP.
I'd think penetration would be the key as well as having a .358 meplat....I did a lot of bullet testing when I developed my .32 ACP SD load and decided that in small caliber/light/low power loads expansion is not doing any good. In the .32 I settled on 75 gr. hard cast lead RNFP's running at around 1050 FPE and these put the little .32 at almost 200 FPE with the recoil being very little.
The factory .38 American Eagle 130 gr. FMJ we shot Saturday were listed as 180 FPE! And they were pretty snappy yet in the LCR. If my Wife was more comfortable with the Colt 1903 .32 she'd be better off than with a dumbed down .38 Special in the LCR. But that's another story....I'm probably not the only guy whose Wife prefers the simplicity of a revolver. Plus the dang thing literally fits in her pocket so....
Me? I kinda got a rush shooting 158 gr. lead out of a 2". I have a 2" barrel and custom grips coming for my Dan Wesson .357 and I'm telling you. We are gonna have a party with that when the goodies get here.
Probably set the target on fire with muzzle blast.
