I have a lot of 38/357 brass shells that I cannot reload because I have no room for a press.
My gun dealer will reload them for me for .05 a round plus components.
I have 425 shells that he could reload. is this a good deal or should just keep all the shell.
He said about 7.50 for the 38 spl and about 9.00 for the 357 loaded with Speer JSP

I have noticed it is common practice on THR to not shoot reloads except their own.

I spose if you trust the guy, really really trust, and its cheaper than off the shelf, you should go for it.

I generally won't shoot reloads unless I've rolled them myself. I don't expect anyone else to shoot my reloads either.

I think you should just sell the brass (to me), and apply it toward reloading equipment for next time or more factory ammo. :)

Have you looked at the Lee hand press. I've used one and they are not only easy to operate but you can keep it in a shoe box in your closet. I trusted reloads for many years but they were department issue on the police range, shooting a hundred almost weekly, and they didn't cost me anything. Now that I'm retired I load my own. Don't really trust a stranger, even from a gun shop.

I trust him I have done business with him for a as long as I have been in to guns.
Im dad also did some business with him. He’s been in it for 35+ years. he reloads for a some other guys
And it’s cheaper then shelf ammo and better components. if you are near Bowling Green Ohio you know him I just do not know if .05 a shell is a good price

Since you say he's been reloading for 35 years I guess it's no different buying from him than buying reloads from Georgia Arms or some or the other online commercial reloaders.

Remington Factory .38 Special UMC costs $12.99 a box here in NE PA and their .357 Magnum UMC ammo is $20.99 a box. The .357 Magnum's at $9.00 are a better deal than the .38 Specials at $7.50 but both are fair IMO.

Mike6161 I'm in the great black swamp also (Defiance area) you can load up 400or so on my set up if we are close enough.

Mike, for years I had my little Lee Challenger press mounted on a 2 1/2' 1X10 that I would clamp to the old kitchen table when I reloaded. It stayed in the back of my closet the rest of the time. The rest of the equipment you need would just about fit in a couple of shoeboxes. Otherwise, I wouldn't be too worried about letting the gun dealer load them for you. He probably is just trying to give you a fair deal and make a little pocket change on the side. Maybe he would let you participate when he loads your cases. That would be a great way to learn the ropes.
