Why no surplus Makarov ammo available? Didn't the commies make that stuff for years?

I was at the range last night and the guy in lane next to me saw my PA63. I told him it was a 9mm Mak and he didn't know what it was. I offered to let him shoot it. I installed the Wolf spings as soon as I bought it. He was shooting a G19. I tried to explain the differences between the .380, 9mm Luger and the Mak. He shot one magazine and his groups were 1/2 the size of his G19 groups. ( Not bashing the G19, I own several Glocks). He was very impressed and when I told him what I paid for the gun he was extremely impressed. His dad wrote down the make and model so they could look into getting one.

I don't carry my PA63 much but I have no doubt that it will do what is needed to do when I do carry it. It has never had a FTF, FTE etc... I like the cartridge and feel it will get the job done, even though I normally carry 45acp or 9mm Luger. It wouldn't be my first choice for carry but I would much prefer a 9mm Mak than a .380.
I did not know of the PS63, so I Googled it. What a sweet little pistol. I'd like to nab one of those sometime.

OK, afew things I notice here.....

the thread is 9mm Mak vs .380ACP aka 9mm short, 9mm browning etc.

NOT 9mm NATO

compared to the .380, it comes in a similar sized gun, uses similar mechanics, is about the same price point for most, and packs more punch....

Questions?

AS for the surplus stuff, thanks the Presidents, and their nice agreements, no commie Chinese or Russian 'junk' flooding our country....

Unfortunately, I have lower back pain. Many of you who have read my earlier threads/posts know this. Four weeks ago it finally was discovered that I have Scoliosis. How wonderful, eh?

Although I prefer to CCW my Bulgarian Mak, at a weight of 27oz it leaves me only carrying it about 3% of the time I leave the house. Enter the Debutante: the 15.2oz Sig P238 in .380. Don't get me wrong, the little P238 is not only nice looking, but functions and shoots very well with good accuracy, although not quite a tack driver as the Bulgarian. The .380 does come in more modern defensive flavors, but the same number of rounds will usually cost you two to three times as much as the same number of 9x18 rounds, depending on where you buy your ammo from.

If I had no Scoliosis, I'd CCW my Bulgarian everyday, no questions, no doubt.

Negligible differences in caliber.

I loved my Russian Mak, but sold it after buying it brand new for 150.00 :banghead: What the heck was I thinking?

Where were all you comrades then when I let it go? I was obviously very, very ill.

I don't know if that's the reason -- I see a lot of Combloc milsurp 7.62x54R online and at gun shows. Not to mention 7.62x39 and 7.62x25, etc.

Thanks Rami...it was a Russian Mak that I got new about 20 years ago with the standard holster, cleaning rod, mag and stuffed in a cardboard box. Paid 150.00 for it at Sports Authority and was too green to know what a gem I had. The DA trigger was stiff but in SA in broke crisply at what seemed around 6-7lbs...very accurate and reliable as well. I had no problems with aluminum cased blazers I put through it.
