i recently picked up a '57 39a mountie. it's one sweet rifle. but the sights (the rear is no longer original) leave something to be desired.

i've been looking around and i think i want a williams fp receiver peep rear (fp-39-tk), and the lyman globe front (17ahb). does anyone have this combo? is the height of the 17ahb globe front compatible with the williams rear?

i was considering the skinner as well, but like the idea of the easy adjusting fp with the target knobs. on another forum, a fella had the skinner receiver sight but the 17ahb globe was too tall and he had to have the ramp removed and a dovetail cut into the bbl. i'm not willing to do that. my thought is that the williams has more adjustablility and could work. just wondering if anyone can confirm it.

thanks.

Skinner peep. I have one on my MOuntie and it is amazing. Never had FP no need to.

i like the FP's but im also looking at a skinner, if you get the FP, dont get the top mount, get the side mount, the top is to big in my opionion.

I have a Williams FP on my old 39M. As it's "new" enough to have the open rear with the fold-down blade I've always got a nearly instant back-up option should it become necessary. The receiver was already D&T'd fo it, too so installation is a five-minute DIY.

I replaced the front bead with a Firesight FO bead and open-top hood. The FP had plenty of adjustment with the factory front, so I didn't need to get a taller one. The combo works very nicely for me.

I'm not very familiar with the Lyman globe front set-up so I can't comment on whether mounting one would require any modification to the carbine. It's something I'd look into (IE: call the Tech line at Brownell's) before making any final decision, though.
