I normally use CCI350 magnum primers for full-house loads in my .41 mag. I ran out and the only large pistol primers on the shelf at the LGS were Winchester WLP. The box states that it is OK for standard or magnum loads. True? The intended load features over 20 gr. of H110 and a Speer 210 gr HP.

Also, has anyone tried the Speer deepcurl bullets in the .41? Likes or dislikes?

Thanks!

Primers is primers as far as I'm concerned.

If you are loading a bleeding foreskin MAX load?
Back off and start over when you change ANY component.

Otherwise, primers is primers.

I don't think you're supposed to use H110 in .41 magnum.
That was Blue Dot, and that was a lawyer thing due to old published over-pressure data still floating around.

Like in the current Lee reloading manual they still are selling.

Speer DeepCurl bullets are Gold Dot bullets and they are very good bullets IMO. Speer for some reason felt the need to change the name for bullets meant for handgun hunting to DeepCurl instead of calling the Gold Dot which is associated with self defense.

This is directly from the Speer site:
DeepCurl™ —Speer's newest hunting line-gives reliable performance and consistent expansion at all velocities, every time. These tough bullets were formally known as Gold Dot® Handgun Hunting. Check out the new packaging and find your DeepCurl today.

I didn't get very good results when I substituted with standard primers using H110. I had lots of burning powder flying all over the place and hitting me in the face. I was almost concerned about my hair or clothing catching on fire. I won't personally do that again with H110 or 296. Velocities were all over the place too!

There must be a pretty good reason why the published data indicates the use of magnum primers with this extremely slow burning ball powder.

H110 burns fine with standard primers, however you need to be using heavy bullets with a good heavy crimp to get it to burn correctly. This is partly why the manuals specify a mag primer. The mag primer gets the burning process going a little faster and can help when your bullet weight is not quite to the point where the powder burns completely.

I have been using H110 with Fed150 (standard primers) out of my .44mag and it has been one of the most consistent and clean burning loads I have used to date.
