.41 Mag Reloading Question

I'm a huge fan of Cast Performance bullets which are used in Grizzly Cartridges factory ammunition. They are extremely well made and accurate for me in several cartridges although I don't load for the .41 Magnum. IMO the price is fair especially since they are high quality bullets. (32¢ a bullet w/gas check)

Of course not cheap for plinking but a good price for a hunting bullet.
Nice looking bullets, those will definitely kill game.

I think I would be willing to take a chance on the Speer myself if I wanted a jacketed bullet in .41 these days, then buy a lifetime supply of the Remington's if they ever make a run. I am sure they will one day when we are even more caught up in the supply chain.

I have a couple hundred 150 Gr SP Core-Lokt .30 Cal bullets. Likely a lifetime supply for me, but wish I had bought a couple hundred or so 200 Gr .35 Cal Core'Lokts. :)

Sierra used to make a .41 SP bullet, but it was for Silhouette, not hunting, and Speer quit making those nice half-jacket 220grn bullets some time ago.

Walkalong, I'll send you one of my Remington .41 SP's... you can put it in your Hope Chest. Maybe I can send you 2... and they will start a family? It's a really good bullet...

I think the Remington Core-Lokt bullet is excellent. It's amazing how well they work for an "old" design.

The Speer Deep-Curl bullets are a good choice for handgun hunting bullets. I have not taken game with them yet but they are accurate and all the reports are good.

I received a lot of input from all of you and am grateful for that. I bought three different bullets to develop loads for my Model 57.
Remington 210 gr JSP, ACME 215 gr SWC cast, Beartooth 250 gr. LFN GC cast bullets IMG_1705.JPG . I'll be using H110 powder and CCI magnum large pistol primers.
I'll keep you posted as to my findings, once it stops snowing here in Idaho Panhandle.

I wouldn't use the H110 on the cast SWC.

Depends on the power level. No, I wouldn't use 110 for anything less than close to full power, since they say not to download it and everyone says they are right. Full power? No problem.

OK, about the SWC, good to know. I'm thinking about using the 215 gr cast for a "plinker" so I'll take your advice on the Unique powder. I read and recorded that someone had used 21.0 grains of H110 with a 220 grain cast bullet, but that doesn't make sense for a plinker now.

The 210 gr JSP and 250 gr Lead would be full power hunting rounds.

I believe that's the correct approach. I've run the commercial cast 215's pretty high, accuracy can fall off pretty markedly and, depending on the bore size, they can lead, too.

Also... looking at the current data for both W296 and H110 (same powder now, didn't used to be...) 20.0grn H110 is max for a 220grn bullet... I would probably heed that limit. There is some conflicting data out there... those two didn't used to be the same powder, so 'start low and work your way up' applies here.

Looking at my range data...

I get about 1100fps with 9.0grn Unique under either a 215grn cast SWC or the 210grn JSP in a 6" barrel.

The 210grn Remington JSP and 20.8grn W296 (this is an old data/old powder load) gives me 1300fps (this may have been out of a 4" barrel, or in very cold weather.)

The 250grn Cast Performance gas check over 19.0grn W296 gives me 1325fps out of the same 6" barrel.
