Gspn,

I looked for one today at cabelas. I didn't think about checking to see if midway had them..I should have known they carry just about everything.

Thanks

My favorite load for this one, while not being a cast bullet, is the Remington 200gr SJHP loaded over 20.5grs of 296 and lit off using the Winchester LP primer. I have found this load to do just about everything I could ever ask of a load, and it's not overpowered to the point one cannot shoot them all one might want too.

You are going to love that gun. I have a 6" blue 57 with target hammer and trigger, red ramp front sight pinned and recessed. It is without a doubt one of the nicest N frames I have ever owned. It certainly wasn't a Friday gun as it has been tight like a bank vault since I got it as a "gently" used safe queen many years ago.

I have refrained from loading barn burner ammo in it, rather keeping my loads to the lower end of Magnum. I run 210 XTP's @ 1400 fps with 19.0 grains H110. Easy on the hands. Max loads exceed 1600 fps which is more than you want from the 57. It will do it...but really the previous mentioned load is easier on the gun and is more than enough power for most any use.

If you want an interesting bullet for the 41, Oregon trail makes a cast and gas checked 265 flat point. I load them about 1100 to 1150 fps using 17.5 grains of H110. THAT round penetrates like a bunker buster. Suffice to say 10" diameter cotton wood trees are no match for that slug. Entrance hole of just under 1/2 inch...exit hole about 1 inch.... Through ..............and through. The load data has a starting load of 19.5 with H110...but I find that to be a bit too stout as it does 1400...which is a might fast with a 265 for me. It is much more shootable at 1150.

The 57 is a great gun. 41 Magnum is plenty of power for everything. If you need more poop than the 41 makes, go get your 30-30.

When I was looking for a .41 mag, I was seriously lusting after the M57. I could not afford it at the time, so I went with the Blackhawk. One thing about the Ruger, you don't really have to worry about shooting it loose. I have shot thousands of full power loads (22 plus gr. H110 and a 210 gr. jacketed bullet) with no ill issues. Now that I shoot a lot of mid-range loads, having a Smith would be a nice addition. Too bad the best price I have seen in a few years is $700. Ouch!
