Hey wnycollector my local shop has one of the Smiths that look like a big 642 for, I believe, under 500 bucks. Give them a try.

They are closed on the weekends but I bet if you dropped an email he would respond this weekend. If your feeling really froggy you could buy the 20mm he's got for sale. It might be hard to conceal though.

Thats the owners wife. They are cool people.

somethin' about blued large bore revolvers... Model 24

. . . I had that EXACT one! Disappeared with the ex-wife:banghead:

It was a great carry gun, carried it for years . . . .

Haven't found another one that wasn't priced out of my price range.:cuss:

Charter & Taurus both OK

They'll both do the job.

I bought my CA Bulldog used back in the early 80's, and it's never failed me. That being said, it really needed  the Pachmayr grips I put on it. Recoil is stout for such a lightweight piece.

I bought a Taurus 443 - four inch heavy barrel, five shot, fits same holster as a Smith $ Wesson K or L frame. Nice piece, just not really concealable, and recoil not so nasty as the lightweight Bulldog.

They're both good at what they were designed for. The Bulldog isn't pretty, but it was made to be a functional and affordable alternative to pocket .38 snubbies. It does do well at that job. The Taurus was likely trying to fill the niche for people who like the K and L framed Smiths but wanted something with more power than a .38 Special (or less blast than a .357). It does that just fine.

I'm keeping both of 'em. Both of 'em go bang when I want, both of 'em deliver the kind of accuracy you'd expect from them, and neither of them cost me a fortune.

PS to BRI - if that's all you lost when you parted paths with your ex, count your blessings.

I like Markallens Ruger Alaskan honest enough. I'd love to fit some GP100 concealable grips on one. Get a little more umphh from it. I wear large jeans and pocket carry my Glock 20, and Ruger P345 and I'm still losing weight. My size 36"s are getting loose so I'll be able to start pocketing in them rather than just my 38"s. I can't bring myself to go to just .44 special given the ammo is more expensive than .44 magnum. And yes I reload but all the same I'd like to have the option to pare down to a .44 special than lose the ability to ever get up to a .44 Magnum. Also is there somewhere to buy hammers fors the Alaskan without the spur. The spurless hammer would make it far more concealable for pocket purposes. I know a big bear of amn who carries a S&W 629 3" in his right pocket behind this wallet and he can snatch draw the thing.

i picked this CHARTER TARGET BULL DOG up years ago, was looking for a beater gun for the boat.

this one was in such good condition i had to find another beater for the boat.

i have had no problems with this gun.

as for charter my daughter did buy a new 22mag snuby, had a bad case of bullet tumble from the first day to the 15th day , gave it back to the dealer on that 15th day.
charter refused to send a pick up for the gun wanted me to pay both ways :cuss:

would i buy an older charter YES  a newer one NO.:barf:

HAVE A TAURUS 444 ULTRA LIGHT 44MAG with 44spl it feels like a full house 44mag,

Hi,
I have a charter 2000. It shoots well, conceals OK in a IWB(sp 101 is easier to conceal), and the recoil is about like a .357 with blazer 200 gr hp.
