I have gotten very good results with HS-6 and HS-7 under a 405gr Cast bullet when shot in a Marlin levergun.if you made a max load using unique in a Ruger #1 in 45-70 and then put that load in a Marlin I'm not all that surprised that it caused some problems. the only powders that I had any luck with in my Ruger #1S in 45-70 was unique and 2400
They say they were tested in a modern Marlin 1895.
They apparently were not pressure tested at all.
So who knows?
If you want safe, pressure tested pistol powder, lead bullet loads for a Trap-Door Springfield?
Buy a Lyman cast bullet handbook.
