Anybody have a good source for decent quality bulk 45 ACP ammo? I will run through several 1000 rounds in the next month and need some cost savings, but nothing that will hurt the gun (ie. not get stuck in the barrel! ).

Sportsman Guide has a great price on Wolf, but was hoping to find some US or South Korean suplus for practice rounds. Aimsurplus is out at the moment, but has been my source in the past.

Thanks.

I think the Wolf from SG is going to be your chepest bet. I've run a few thousand of the new polymer coated stuff through my 1911's with no issues. Kinda weak, dirty and certainly not the most accurate, but good enough.

I am kinda new to the 45 ACP scene, so I'm not sure if this is a good value or not, but I ordered some CCI BLAZER 45 ACP 230GR FMJ for $7.90/box of 50 from Natchez .
In my limited search, most of the ammo I see is close to $10 for a box of 50.
Someone please let me know if I'm looking in the wrong place for ammo, I have a 1911 enroute to me as we speak, so I'll be needing a bunch.

Thanks, :)

Depends on where you are located. Shipping is a HUGE deal. A thousand rounds of .45ACP is just over 50lbs. Rates can be anywhere from $0.50 to over $1.00 per pound depending on the shipping zone you live in and how far it is from the shipper.

I order from Outdoormarksman on the West Coast. With shipping, I get 1000 rounds of S&B .45ACP for $9.73/box delivered. Price is $8.49 before delivery.

The Natchez price is cheaper then Outdoormarksman for the same S&B ammo ($8.25), but with delivery, it comes to $10.35/box. It's also a few days slower to deliver to California.

Ammoman can be a good deal depending on what he has in stock so it's worth checking regularly.

Natchez will run specials on S&B which is the cheapest I've seen. Shipping from Natchez to me in MI makes the 1000 round total for S&B 187.17, which is $9.35 a box.

G n' R:

Check out Turners for their Cal Ammo Reloads. I'm pretty sure that it was $35 for 5 bags of 50, making it about $7/bag. It's the exact same ammo that they use at The Firing Line chain of ranges. Plus, they give you about 5 $2 off coupons for visitors at TFL.

Over around 5000 rounds fired between four different guns, I only had one problem- One of the primers fell out.

I Just ordered a bunch of reloaded ammo from National Bullet. I've found it to be pretty decent (the .45 is a little dirty though) and very cheap. If you get on their email sales list they offer web specials and a percentage off every weekend and they have free shipping. My order was 1 case of 9mm, 1 case of .40, and 1 case of .45; all FMJs for a total shipped price of about $435 That was about $8.75/box for .45, $8/box for .40, and $5/box for 9mm shipped.

Check for a gunshow within reasonable driving distance. You can usually find .45 ammo in bulk...say 500 loose rounds in a .30-cal steel army surplus can...for less than $0.08/round, and no freight or shipping charges added. :D

Have fun!

Beware of Gunshow reloads!

I shoot mostly Wolf or my reloads these days. I usually get my Wolf from www.sportsmansguide.com (<$120 per 1000) but only if I'm ordering something else, as they only tack on an extra $5 or $10 shipping to their normal one-size fits all shipping charge.

I always seem to have a $10 off coupon from them which also helps. At gun shows here, Wolf is usually $65 per 500 and with our 8.25% sales tax, I order and let the UPS guy do the heavy lifting :) Occasionally they have a "free shipping" promo -- then I really stock up on the ammo :)

At gun shows I generally buy brass cased .45ACP whenever I find it for $160/1000 or less (rare). Usually its Remington UMC or PMC, ocassionally Winchester USA, S&B or Fiocchi.

I went the Outdoor Marksman route when I bought that much ammo. Have you considered reloading? I'm not too big on buying others' reloads because you just don't know how well they've reloaded the ammo.

If you are going to do a LOT of shooting in the future, you might consider a progressive reloader...one completed cartridge per handle pull. (My cost for 230gr PRN is $5.26/box, and I've only ordered bullets in 500 batches and powder by the single pound. 9-mm Luger 125-gr LRN is $2.26/box. ) There are LOTS of second hand Dillons with extras in the EBAY auctions (Dillon is in severe need of modernization)...but the Hornady L-N-L Autos are a much better deal...$299 at Midway and $310 at Grafs with free shipping. And, you should look seriously at the Lee Pro 1000 and Loadmasters, very reasonably priced and have a lot of happy users...check Midway prices. :D

I second the LNL recommendation. Its a great press, I figured you'd already considerred that option and ruled it out which is why I didn't suggest it above. If you have the time, its hard to do it cheaper.

Also, check with your local gunshop. If you are making a bulk buy of several thousand rounds, they will often work with you on pricing to the point that it's cheaper than ordering somewhere and paying freight.

Also, I second the gunshow suggestion above. Go there midday Sunday and see it they will give you a deal (they may have had a slow weekend and be hurting for sales, or just plain sick of having to pack it up and haul it back).

As much as I try to buy ammo from somewhere other than wal-mart, it seems like it's never cheaper-I can't find a price sticker on my last 100rd value packs, I am pretty sure they were around 16-17, for sure less than 20. No ordering, shipping, waiting, and no steel cases.
I know 9mm is about 11.00/100rd. I have a hard time finding cases much cheaper than 110.00 after shipping.

I've bought ammo from WalMarts all over the upper Midwest, and the prices never vary. The Winchester White Box is $19.97/100. I've been buying Blazer Brass, which is just about the same price, is cleaner, and seems more accurate.

Outdoor marksman shows up at local gun shows :) :) Ive payed $90 and $96 for 1000 .40 cal reloads that were very clean.

Mr. Ammoman loves you! Free shipping, 220 bucks for 1000 rounds of Fiocchi 230 gr. FMJ. I have no idea if that's a good price or not (there's also a deal on there for 5k rounds for a thousand bucks of Federal American Eagle 230 gr. FMJ). My brother ordered a case of .223 from Ammoman, and wasn't disappointed (except that the UPS guy left it on his doorstep and one of the packages got stolen).
