Smith & Wesson Third Generation. These are discontinued but can be found used. These include, but are not limited to, the 4516, 457, 4563 TSW, etc., coming in different choices of metals, finishes and two types of actions.

HK USPc, 1911, Sig 220, Glock 36, S&W M&P, Springfield XD, all great guns IMHO. I wish FN would make a compact. I personally carry a 1911 as my everyday carry. I will be getting an HK USPc in 45acp very soon as I love the one I have in 357sig.

Over the years I've CCW'd everything from a Colt Pony Pocket Lite .380, a Berretta Cheetah 85, .380, a S & W 642 .38 +P, Glocks G19, G23, G26, G27, and a G30. At one time or another I thought each of these was the perfect CCW gun for me. They were until I was introduced to a Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911, 5'. For me it's the best carry gun and most accurate shooting pistol I have. In my Minotaur holster it's very comfortable to carry all day and conceals nicely even with my shirt tucked in the belt. Only cost $492.00 and has proven itself shooting over 500 - 600 rounds of everything I put into it.
Best advice I can give is try to shoot the G30 and a 1911 before you buy. You may find as I did that the 1911 fits your hand better.

I'm interested in seeing some good options for a .45 ACP CCW. What are the best options available these days?
I carry the XD Tactical 5" barrel 45ACP. Very accurate, reliable, and the 10+1 capacity; give me piece of mind. Although I am in the market, for a single stack 9mm. Carry ammunition is the Hornady. XTP, in my XD. Plus extra FMJ, for heavy encounters.
Well good luck!

Springfield XD

I used to pack a Browning Hi-Power 9mm but switched to the SA XD-.45ACP and although on the larger size of CCW carry stuff, I usually wear a tee shirt tucked into my pants w/tight belt and a loose short or long sleeve shirt over, covers completely and I'm only 5-6 @ 130#. Hardly a big guy.

M&P45 or M&P45C if you want something easier to carry. Very soft shooting .45s.

Springfield XD45 compact (4" barrel/service) in a Comp-tac MTAC and Beltman gun belt (or Uncle Mike's "instructor" belt... cheap and not awesome but it works kind of ok). Conceals fairly well.

I also do not wear super oversized t-shirts and button ups. Sometimes it is difficult to really judge "conceals well under a t-shirt" since everyone has different preferences for t-shirt sizes. I wear medium shirts and have a medium/small frame. Some people would not consider wearing anything smaller than XL even with a small frame. As such, YMMV.

That's what I carry - but there are plenty of other good options out there, too. The 1911 gets a definite advantage from its thinness (Especially when combined with ultra thin grips), but you do give up a bit in capacity and get that longer grip length. However, with some experimentation, it should work. One thing, though, most fuller sized .45s, whether steel or polymer, are not light guns. A good holster and belt is going to be a requirement.

I don't carry a gov 1911 generally only because of weight. So if I'm carrying a 45 it will be one of the ones below depending on mood and attire..

Colt Talo New Agent
Dan Wesson C-Bob
Sig Tac-ops Commander
Smith & Wesson 325 Night Guard

Sig p220 full size. Had an xd45 compact but didn't care for the feel as much as the sig. Only has the necessary controls ( slide release mag release and decock there is no manual safety).
