I have about 300 45 ACP small primer cases and was wondering is there a downside to using the smaller primer case over the large primer case?

No.

The only downside is sorting them out from the standard size cases after you shoot them.

So?
Choot'm.

Rcmodel if you use a 3/16 drill bit you can ez sort them. After a 100 or so they all start looking the same. The bit also will knock out some of the carbon in the primer pocket.

They don't look the same to me, no matter how many I look at.

But I got a Calibrated Eye-Ball from a lot of years in machining / tool & die work.
And loading .45 ACP for 50 years.

Since I'm nuts and have to sort everything I shoot I keep the small and large primer brass segregated and don't shoot or tumble them together. I just find that easier than picking them out after tumbling every time.
