.45 Colt Cowboy Load...Powder Choice?

I've reloaded with Clays and Trailboss. I didn't like Trailboss at all and used only one can. I've bought Clays by the 8 pouind jug and used it in 38 Special, 45 Colt, and 12 Gauge Shotshells. If you use a single stage press there is no reason to be concerned if you use the ordinary and reasonable safety precautions, and why wouldn't anyone do that? I used a Dillon 550B and never had any problems, but I was careful and payed attention to what I was doing. I used a small light over the top of my press so checking the powder level was easy. Trailboss powder seemed to be dirty and not all of the powder burned, leaving an unburned residue behind. Other people in our group of shooters used it and had the same results, some continued to use it and others changed to something else. I liked Clays and feel it is a versatile powder, worth considering, I still use it and use it in a 45 ACP as well as those mentioned above..

If you do your part,Clays will do its' part. Your part is to follow safe loading procedures.
I"Ve used lots of Clays for my sixguns, and for 45acp in my 1911.

Here's something I do,and you might find it helpful. ..When I try a new powder,I purposely double charge a case so I know what it looks like, then IMMEDIATELY pour it back into the powder hopper.

If you find some Trail Boss at an affordable price,my experience has been that the lower end loads suck. I load middle to upper middle. Try a few of each and pick the one you like.
..If yoiu don't find any TB, Clays will serve you well.
