I came across this interestingly eccentric interpretation of a Marlin lever gun tonight.

https://yorkguns.com/shop/marlin-1894-45-colt-gallery-rifle/

Per the text of the ad, it's a Gallery Gun.

Are there any British shooters able to tell more how a .45 Colt gallery gun like this would be used?

When I think of gallery shooting, I think of close range carnival shooting from back in the day.

Well, my word, WTH! First off, that cantilever scope rail is awful and is surely unstable. There are better choices available than suspending that thin rail for that distance with a rather large scope installed. Then there is the stock, where to begin? They must have something in mind, I guess.

Looks like they define Gallery gun in the ad as "Rapid Accurate shooting Short-to-mid range".. But then again they describe the gun as eye-catching..

From ad:

How to describe this gun? “Ostentatious” springs to mind- as does “Eye-catching”. Beneath the distinctive paintjob, however, lies a gun built for one purpose. This is a Gallery Gun, built for rapid, accurate shooting at short-to-mid ranges. Equipped with a modified stock, with adjustable buttpad, and modified foreend. Comes complete with Hawke Sidewinder 4-16×50 Scope.

From a brief search on the internet, it appears that due to the laws in the UK, pistol caliber rifles or carbines are called gallery guns since they can be owned if used in organized "gallery" pistol and rifle matches shooting at ranges from 10 meters to 50 meters (10.9 to 54.7 yards) although some competitions will have ranges that go out to 300 meters (328 yards). This requires that one be a member of a club that organizes these types of matches. Obviously, since they are only used in an organized environment, many owners tend to go overboard with features and visual enhancements.

Ferty five colt in a rifle with some kind er foreign flag in it? Weird scope mount? Troublesome . I'd imagine collar button or round ball loads with a grain or 2 of something fast under it. Meh, I'm weird but not that weird .

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'll look into that link when I get a better internet connection. :)
