.45 Colt not quite a squib load but...

I don't shoot competitively or anything yet, although someday I would like to. I wouldn't mind a more stout load. The trail boss loads are pretty wimpy
If you want all the performance a New Vaquero will stand, proven at 45 ACP levels, Trailboss is not as good a choice as other powders. I find fast burners to give the shooter too much of a thumping. Power Pistol is my preference for the Tier I range of 45 Colt (<=14k psi). My cowboy load uses TrailBoss at max less 15%. I haven't tried it yet but intend to have experience with Tin Star, Vihtavouri N320C.

Here's a hint for new reloaders; don't go below any starting load in any current reloading manual. Weigh every charge until you get the hang of dipping accurately or using a powder measure accurately. Forget what "they" said or "I heard" or "I saw on a forum" loads. K.I.S.S. until you at least have a good understanding (aka "feel") of powder charges, pressures and velocities. And until you pass the 10K round mark, never try to extrapolate any load data...
