45 super

Anyone have input on a Glock 30 in 45 super? Been carrying Ruger security six with 200g loads or a Taurus tracker 44 magnum with 255 Keiths for hike in fly fishing in Colorado, Wyoming areas and was looking at a g30 rather than a g29 since I already reload for 45 acp. Trying to cut down on the number of firearms carried in the r.v. ,thinking I could use the 30 as regular carry piece with 10 rd mags in place of my g19 and with the 13 rd mags as my woods gun.

The fact that the Glock30 appears to be "commander" sized means that the slide and barrel combined weight is less than the full sized Mod20...For this reason I would NOT recommend firing Super ammo in it although it would NOT blow up the slide velocity at the endstop would be over 50% greater than that of normal .45 acp loads. Regardless of what you hear and read if you do the physics you will see that just overspringing the recoil spring cannot compensate for mass. If I was going to get eaten I would surely shoot super in a Commander sized gun at least until it failed then I would try to stick the gun into the bears throat! LOL! I am NOT down on the super...I shoot super in my full sized S&W 4506 all the time and I hunt deer with it. But barrel/slide mass is the key to keeping slide velocities in check and heavier is always better in this regard.

If you consider a Glock to be a "disposable commodity" then go for it. IMO it won't hold up for long.

I shoot super in my full sized S&W 4506 all the time and I hunt deer with it.

What kinda loads you using for deer? I'm considering using 45 super for deer in the near future.

Underwood and buff bore .45acp and .45acp+p 255gr hard cast flat point should be a good load for the glock 30.

Might want to check up on springs and such used in the 10mm glock29 and duplicate in your glock30 if you do run .45super.

I have shot both. G30 is a powder puff. G29 is mildly snappy but still pretty mild for something that launches 10mm.

I shoot 45 super a lot in a Glock 21. The pistol has a fully supported Storm Lake barrel and a 24 pound recoil spring. The bullet is a 250 Pin Buster and the velocity is 1025 fps. If you go faster than that you will have frame damage due to slide velocity unless you install a compensator which I don't have or want.
With the G30 and it's lighter slide power would have to be less without a compensator.
I do like the 45 Super.

What kinda loads you using for deer? I'm considering using 45 super for deer in the near future.

Last several years I used a 200 grain FPRN hard cast at 1230 fps using 10 grains of Power Pistol. This year I will be using a 255 grain bullet with the same nose profile over 8 grains of LongShot. This load averages 1024 fps. I have killed three deer with the first load and it seemed to perform just as well as cast bullet loads from my Ruger .45 Colt but I am looking for more penetration since some of the 200 grain loads did not exit on angling shots.
