So I have a Bear Creek Arsenal .450 Bushmaster side charging upper on an Aero lower.

Still can't get it to run right, and fiddled with most things.

Right now, I'm having failures to feed because I think the bolt is running over the cartridge. I have a carbine weight buffer, I will be going heavier.

But, it feeds perfectly when I run it using the side charger. Which makes me think the bolt is too fast. Regardless, I noticed when I was "dry running it", the firing pin dimpled the primers.

I know free floating pins will do this, but do y'all think this is too much dimple?

Also, I'm gonna try H2 and H3 buffer weights and get an adjustable gas block. Anyone running anything else?

Between me, my brother, and dad, we have 4 BC 450 uppers. Don’t have the dimple problem. But the BCA 450’s need to be run very wet for about 50 rounds or so. My brother had issues with his until he found that out. Tried different mags, polished the feed ramp, and bought a different buffer. It just needed oil. I learned his lesson and ran mine wet for the first 100. No issues.

I only run DuraMags.

Edit to add: The problem you are having is EXACTLY the same problem my brother was having. Just trying to save you money and frustration. When you get it broke in, you’re going to be really happy with how it shoots.

Mine shoots lights out with the 250gr Hornady Black. I bought 500 a couple years back. Gave them to my brother in exchange for 250 Starline 450 Brass. Monetarily, he made out like a bandit. But I hate the FTX bullet for hunting and he loves it. So I’m working up a load for 300gr Speer DeepCurl (GoldDot). Tried H-4198. No go. Next up is CFE BLK, Lil’ Gun, and H-110.

H110 and 275 gr Barnes are a nice combo in my AR.

My Ruger American hates them though....and everything else. I’m sending that one back soon.

First one I’ve heard of that doesn’t shoot well. That sucks. But they’ll make it right.

Bolt over rides can be the result of the bolt running too fast but are more typically caused by a slow bolt that is not traveling fully to the rear. If you load one round in the chamber with an empty magazine does it lock open when fired?

From what I remember, yes, but I'll double check again.

Big Bore and Earl,

I'm running Duramags, unmodified and modified Lancers.

I'm about 60-100 rounds into it, I can't remember. Mostly federal 260+300, some Hornady Black. I scored a bunch of Herters 260 a few weeks back, so I'll try that too
