I’m building an upper in 450 Bushmaster. Any data/recommendations would be appreciated. My barrel is 1-24 mid length 18”. Bought a couple boxes of Hornady 250gr FTX to get me started.

I have been playing with 450 BM since last summer. It's been a lot of fun. Lots of good bullet options out there now for 450 BM. Any bullet that works good in 454 Casull or 460 S&W is a good candidate. There are a few 450 BM specific bullet too. I am going to be hunting this year with a 275gr Barnes TSX.

Mine is a 20-inch Bushmaster complete upper on a DPMS A2 lower with a few tweaks and changes to make it my own.

I load the 454 Casull for an H&R single shot. Very similar ballistics. I like the 250 grs FTX over H110. But, I think it's too fragile and would be wary using it on game. I like the 300 grs XTP Mag and have found it very accurate. The Barnes 275 TSX above also looks great.

I've got everything I need to start loading 450, but I'm still in the "shoot factory and save the brass" phase right now. When the factory Hornady is on sale, it costs the same as the components when you count the brass. Starline is producing the brass now as well. From what I hear, Lil-Gun is the powder of choice for a lot of people.

I picked up a box of the 250 FTX when Midway had a sale on them. I also load S&W 460, and have the 240 and 300 XTPmag bullets, which should work very well in the 450.

Waiting on the stripped upper to arrive, and it should be here by Saturday. I ordered an Aero XL because of the larger ejection port. Also bought a Toolcraft BCG, and a KAW Valley linear comp. Optics will include a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 scope and PEPR Mount. This is my first big bore AR, and I’m excited!

I did not realize they made an XL. I see they have one even larger, for 458 (though they advertise the XL to work with 458).

I just bought one of their M4E1 enhanced uppers, because of the way the handguard mounts. I liked it so much, I ended getting their lower for it as well.

From my 16 inch barrel 38 grains of Lil Gun pushes a 250 FTX to 2180fps
39.5 grains H110 with the same bullet gets just under 2100fps.
No pressure signs with either. So far Lil Gun is more accurate but not by much.

I’ve been using Aero lowers a lot lately. Found a vendor at the N.C. gun shows that sells the gen II’s for $60 OTD. They’re a snug fit with all my uppers.

I was wondering about H110 with the 450. I’ve got a few pounds for my .357 magnum, and it’s good to know I can use it.

That is a good price. The one I just got (locally, too!) was the M4E1 lower. Basically like the Gen II but has the trigger guard built in. I like them because of the tensioning screw under the grip.
