I am looking to upgrade my IDPA gun from a standard XD9 and I'm looking for opinions on weather or not its worth it to go ahead and make the leap to the 5.25 competition model. I have looked at some reviews but I want to hear what you all have to say. Thanks!

I love mine, but I use it for more than just IDPA. I don't really see much of an advantage of the 5.25 model over the standard XD9 if you can't take advantage of the increased magazine capacity. I like the sights a lot better on my 5.25, so that may be an advantage, but other than sights and mag capacity, there aren't many more advantages. Maybe the longer sight radius can be an advantage depending on how far the targets are.

Now, if you decide to move over to USPSA/IPSC or 3-gun, there will be a big advantage.

The holster that comes with the 5.25 is junk. It works, but is nothing like a nice holster that one would actually choose to use. I use the magazine holder provided though.

I love mine. The fiber optic front sight stands out and it has an adjustable rear sight. I use it for both IDPA and USPSA. However I'll admit to only using and liking Springfields.

Thanks for your input... I dabble in USPSA every once in a while so I guess I would be using it for both.

You would probably get more response in the Autoloader forum.
This is the Revolver forum.

I ask a mod to move it.

I don't use it for competition but I love shooting it. It's an upgrade over the XD9 I had for the grip and trigger. It has great sights too.

I've got an original XD Tactical, an XDm 4" and an XDm 5.25". The 5.25" is my favorite of the bunch and what I will be shooting in a 3 gun event in 2 weeks.

Hey, I'm thinking about picking one up too, and open carrying it on the trail. Anyone know of a quality holster out there that will fit the 5.25?

When you get to that certain age where sharp focus on the front sight is a memory without "reading glasses" that extra 1-1/4" makes a disproportionate difference when you are restricted to using irons.

Well... I went ahead and bought the 5.25 and shot it tonight in a limited minor class for a uspsa event... Last week at the same event I went 8th out of 16 people overall shooting my XD9 and this week I went 5th out of 16... So I would say that it made a nice difference... Keep in mind that this was literally the first time I had shot this pistol. If you are on the fence on getting an XDm 5.25 I for one vote yes!! This has to be one of the best shooting pistols I have ever shot and it's not even broken in yet! I plan on doing a trigger job on it to make it a little more crisp but that's about it.

I have the Blade Tech kydex holster for competition. Fits well, you can get it with a drop offset if you want.
