Why all the fuss anybody going to run out and buy one. Unless your shooting things with a vest on I don't see the need. Still there is no reason to try and ban it. A broadhead will go through a vest so should we ban them as well.

No one stops and thinks that the chances of a CZ52 ending up in the hands of a criminal are much much higher than the $800+ FN 57. They will both go through soft armor like butter.

I have thought about getting a .50 BMG as a form of protest on all this crap. (IN addition to writing congress.) But, I can't really afford a .50 rifle, and have no place to really shoot it anyway.

At the very least I am going to pick up some 5.7x28 ammo, both for protest as well as collector value down the road. I would like to pick up one of the pistols for the same reasons, but I don't have a spare $800 laying around, and I think the guns are incredibly ugly.

I would have absolutely no desire for this gun or caliber except for the fact that THEY don't want me to be able to have one.

I'm like a little kid. Tell me I can't have or do something, and I will suddenly be extremely interested in why you don't want me messing with something!!

I think other makers are missing the boat in not coming out with more offerings in the caliber . I'd actually like to have a bolt rifle chambered in it or a target pistol but if someone wanted to come up with something "tactical" and cool that's more affordable than the P90:, I'd probably have to have one . As others have said, it's a combination of people being afraid they won't be able to ever get one again, the fact that it's the just now becoming available to regular folks.

If what you look for in a firearm is a tool to fit a task, as I do, then the FN is likely not for you.

I don't think you can load .357 Sig much hotter than it already is. You could go into a +p rating, but that is already a pretty hi-pressure round if I recall.

Besides, the 5.56 isn't the most powerful, but it sure makes some nasty wounds. The 5.7 doesn't need insane amounts of powder to gets its job done. Good bullet design goes so much further than dumping more powder behind a bullet.


Oh yeah, You gotta pay to play. The newest toys tend to be the most expensive. Just wait a year or two more when these start becoming more popular. I'll predict a decent price drop. Besides, the $800 for the gun is already cheaper than some 1911 models that you have to "tune up" to make run right.

i handled 1 at a gunshow saturday i liked the feel of it and the idea of 20rds of 30gr 2300fps hollowpoints is interesting.price was 900 for 3 20rd mags 100rds ammo and the weapon.

-Well, this sounds pretty outlandish to me--why would they go to the expense of making civilian-sale-legal guns, just to stop selling ammo? They might as well save some time and flush money down the toilet.

As far as "what the total impact of the five-seven caliber will be", I'd bet not a lot, at least for a long, long time.

There is nothing special about the Five Seven. Have you ever thought if they're so worried about the Five Seven ammunition why aren't they mentioning .17HMR or .22Mag?

Has there been any update on what is to be the fate of the 5.7 round. I am thinking of picking up a USG in my local shop today and don't wanna invest in something that's gonna have no ammo. I don't care about getting the super hot stuff. Just some nice hollow points for hunting and maybe some cheaper stuff for fun.

I might pick up another 5.7 to replace the one I traded away. If FN releases their semi-auto P90 on schedule it would be a nice duo. I'm definitely going to be getting a p90 and submitting papers to have it short barreled. And a F2000 too. My wallet will never recover, it will just shrivel up.

I think the ammunition that isn't being sold was just hot FMJ. All the armor-piercing claims really pertain to the law-enforcement-only loads, anyway (which are hard, sharp, and pointy); with civilian ammo, it will NOT penetrate a level II or IIIA vest, per the BATFE and the Fraternal Order of Police. A variety of JHP loads and possibly target rounds are available, IIRC.

The Brady Bunch put out a video purporting to show it defeating a vest, but if you watch the video the narrator says it's a level IIA, which is not even rated to stop .357 magnum.

The FiveSeven is a neat gun, but it's basically just a centerfire .22 WMR optimized for a handgun-length barrel, not some magical wonder bullet.
