It will destroy the buffer and snap the takedown pin. Probably in less than 1 magazine.

I tried to make it work a few different ways, but the added mass - even as little as our 2.5 ounce Salamander - screws with the hybrid blowback system and massively increases slide velocity. The floating barrel is designed to act as a psuedo short recoil system using the friction of the expanded case against the chamber walls. The grip is not enough with a can on the end, so they become simple blowback with a way-too-light slide.

I posted these photos on THR a few years ago. The big hole in the center is a .50 BMG at 100 Yards. The three at the bottom left are FN SS 198 5.7 x 28 rounds fired through my FN Five Seven at 30 feet. The Granger Catalog is 3" to 4" thick. I believe the 5.7 penetration is more than adequate.

A 9mm will do that and then some. Tests performed on 9mm ammo in home construction penetration tests and the different 9mm loads would penetrate 9-12” of pine boards, or 10-12” of gypsum.

I bring this up not to tout 9mm but to just make sure you are not misappropriating the fact that the 5.7x28 can make it through 3-4” of catalog.

Sorry, should have said something to the effect that your post implies that 5.7 is doing something that other handgun rounds won't do. That is all. Wrong choice of word.

I was just posting my thoughts that there are plenty of handgun rounds that will perform like that. That is all.
