Does anyone have any links to articles or have any commentary about changing a 6 shot medium frame Blackhawk flat top to a 5 shot cylinder? I know that they have been done with the large frame, but how strong would they be with a medium frame cylinder? The caliber in question would be 45 Colt, although 44 special to mag would be an interesting discussion as well.

I'm playing around with this in my mind theoretically, but have no intentions to do it in the near future.

Well, the gun is strong enough as a six shooter to handle fairly hot .44 Special loads. I don't doubt that a five shot conversion could handle .44 Magnum and "Ruger only" .45 Colt loads.

I personally would not want to shoot it, though. The gun already is a handful with maximum .44 Special loads.
